Mountain Lion Minute
Week of February 1st
I cannot believe we have reached the month of February! This month will bring many special events for our Mountain Lion community including Valentine’s Day and the 100th Day of school. February also serves as Black History Month, and it’s important for our country to take a moment to reflect on the importance African Americans have played in American history. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., once said, “We are not makers of history. We are made by history.” During the month of February, we will honor those individuals that paved the foundation for us to continue to build on. I want to encourage our students that their voices and words have power and, positively put to use, can bring significant change. Throughout the month, we will learn of historical and current figures making a positive impact on society.
At Montgomery, we value all types of diversity and are dedicated to creating a community enriched by our young Mountain Lions of diverse backgrounds and respectful of differences. Diverse perspectives and experiences are crucial to academic excellence because they expand creative thought and analysis, test assumptions and broaden understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
