A Note from Ms. Koontz

Happy Summer Families,

A few exciting things are happening on campus while students are home. Tally and Bobby are hard at work cleaning and sanitizing our school to ensure students and staff return to a healthy environment. Our preschool courtyard behind rooms 5 and 6 is being resurfaced. It is gorgeous! We can't wait for student to have a safe place to play outside. Our garden is absolutely thriving. Mrs. Sheila and Mrs. Hagstrom have done a great job keeping it happy while we wait for students to return. I have also enjoyed working in the sunshine and harvesting some delicious veggies. Mrs. Kolano has been seen on campus hanging hooks outside of classrooms! By the time students arrive all classrooms, computer lab and library will have backpack hooks. HOORAY! Painting starts in July! Thank you to everyone who shared their input on color choices. The majority vote went to gray walls, white trim and Black Dahlia for the doors and support poles. It has been fun to see another summer of campus updates for our students. We are looking forward to welcoming students in some form in August.

I will continue to send out newsletters when I have new information regarding reopening in the Fall. At this time we do not have a date scheduled for Gator Day. Continue to check emails, dojo, facebook, instagram and robo calls for information.

2020-2021 Update

Below is the message posted on our district website concerning return in the Fall. For more information please click here.

The 2020-21 school year will begin on August 13th, and we look forward to reopening, with safety, community, equity, and quality instruction at the forefront of our collective minds. This web page will be our communication and participation platform for staff, students, and our community to keep up-to-date on the progress we are making in our Roadmap to Reopen. You will find that our Roadmap to Reopen is a structured timeline that revolves around our three task force groups:

1) Health and Safety Task Force
2) School Operations Task Force
3) Technology, Teaching, and Learning Task Force

The purpose of our Task Forces is to provide input to the Board of Education on multiple school reopening scenarios that comply with applicable public health orders. The Board of Education will have the final responsibility to decide how Mt. Diablo Unified Schools will reopen. Going forward, you can expect that we will continue with our Friday Letters, that we will regularly update our Roadmap to Reopen, and that we will utilize a variety of communication methods to keep you informed.

First Year Feedback Opportunities

THERE IS STILL TIME- Please help me reach 150 families!!!!

As I reflect back on my first year as principal of Gregory Gardens Elementary and Robert Shearer Preschool, I am filled with pride and excitement for all we have accomplished as a community. I set out to reestablish a unified community which supports students, families and staff. My goals were to create a safe and emotionally rich environment through PBIS principals, ensure communication was timely and effective and align site initiatives and curriculum to enhance student success. I am deeply committed to our site. Please help me improve and serve our community by completing this 10 question survey.

I will use survey responses along with my district evaluation to set leadership goals for myself and improve as the principal for our campus.

MDUSD Takes a Stand for Black Equity

The Board of Education and Mount Diablo Unified School District leaders have collaborated to write Resolution 19/20-68 to be declared aloud at its public meeting on Monday, June 8, 2020.
In formal language, this resolution condemns violence, intolerance, and injustice, and reaffirms equity and humanity as core guiding principles for the district. We would encourage you to take the time to read this resolution to understand the district’s perspective and commitment.

MDUSD Meals

Food Service to Continue through Summer:

We continue to be ever so proud of our Food and Nutrition Department staff, community partners, and volunteers who are on the front lines serving meals to our families. These basic needs are so vitally important, and when our scale is now approaching close to 50,000 meals each week, it takes a tremendous amount of creativity and logistical expertise to make it happen. Our hats are off to them, and our hands are across our hearts, acknowledging and grateful for the great,

Check out how we spend our days!
