Updates and Celebrations
End of 1st Semester & Finals Week
Raider families, it's hard to believe, but we're almost halfway through the school year! The final week of first semester is January 22nd through January 26th. Last week’s inclement weather has posed many challenges for our community. Due to the school days missed, finals week will look different this semester. Students will receive information from each of their teachers about adapted assignments and timelines. In some instances, final exams may not be given, and alternative assignments may be put in place. In yearlong courses students might see the extension of tests and units into second semester. In semester courses, curriculum may be shortened. It is our goal as a school to ensure that all students are successful as close out first semester and work to ensure student grades are not negatively impacted by the inclement weather days. Let's finish strong, Raiders!
Monday, January 29th is a Grading Day, so there will be no school for students as teachers finalize semester grades. The first day of 2nd semester will be on Tuesday, January 30th-- this will be an A day.
Community Resources
Latino Network
Reynolds High School is home to an impressive number of community partners, including Latino Network. Founded in 1996 by local community leaders, Latino Network saw that there were not enough resources to meet the needs of the growing Latinx population. The most motivated Latinx student confronts systemic barriers to college and career success. Latino Network’s Escalera program works to break down these barriers. Escalera offers an intensive year-round college-preparation program to Reynolds High School students. Instructors facilitate after-school and summer programs for high school cohorts of 11th and 12th graders. In addition, the Early Escalera program provides a head start for motivated 9th and 10th grade students. Our students benefit greatly from this organization that not only does daily work with our students, but also community outreach with families.
Student Life & Activities
Club Fair
Did you know that RHS has over 30 after-school clubs? Students have the opportunity to join clubs that cover a wide range of interests, from culinary, automotive, and environmental issues, to ping pong, soccer, guitar, and much more!
Since the spring semester is nearly here, spring club applications are now available in room 97. Club applications are for any students that did not apply in the fall.
Students who are interested in starting a club and getting it approved must complete the club application, find a club advisor (or contact Ms. Kasler to help you find an advisor), and host a table at the spring club fair during lunch on Friday Feb. 2nd.
If your student has an idea for a club that they would like to start, ask them to check in with Ms. Kasler in room 97!
2023-24 Yearbooks + Senior Info
The Yearbook production is in full swing, and we are excited to deliver a great book this year! We do need YOUR help in achieving this amazing book, by completing a few simple steps. Right now, on Schoology, there is a post by Will Schweinfurth, our Yearbook teacher, that includes pre-production proofs of all the portraits for the yearbook. We would love to make sure each student's name is correct and how they want it, so we are asking you to double check! There is a form linked in the post if changes need to be made. These portraits (except 12th grade) will be finalized on February 9th, so please act fast!
If your student does not have a portrait in these proofs, please understand that it is likely that they did not take a portrait on picture day, and they will be listed in the "not-pictured" section.
SENIORS!
Your optional alternate portraits are due by February 16th! There is a link on Schoology that will take you to where you can submit your portrait.

Exciting Theatre Announcements!
On Saturday, January 6th, our Raider thespians competed at the Mt. Hood Conference Acting Competition. All students did extremely well, with one student receiving a Superior rating in the Solo Acting category, which was just one point away from being a showcase champion.
A huge congratulations to senior Izra Verdenstine!
Speaking of our actors, the RHS Theatre Department is deep into rehearsals for their Winter musical, Little Shop of Horrors! This fun and time-honored musical will be showing in our auditorium, February 16 + 17, February 23 + 24, and March 1 + 2. All shows begin at 7pm, with doors at 6:30pm. We hope to see you there!
Raiders,
I hope the transition into the New Year has brought a renewed sense of enjoyment and happiness. I know, for me, the New Year provides an opportunity for reflection and evaluation. As we embark on these uncharted waters and embrace the new challenges ahead, it is important to acknowledge how far we have come. 2023 brought so many great memories, so many examples of resilience, compassion, and competitive desire. We failed, persevered, and stared adversity in the face. Despite all these challenges Raiders athletes have soared to new heights, setting the bar even higher.
Our Winter sports programs have followed suit, exemplifying the high standard of excellence Reynolds is known for. Our boys’ and girls’ basketball programs take the court each night with pride and resilience. Swimming is establishing the bar higher and higher each time they compete. Our ever-consistent wrestling program has continued with their dominant ways. Their continued success has put them in a prime spot to make a run for the district title. What an amazing effort by all our Winter athletes!
As we finish off our Winter seasons and head into the Spring, let us continue to be the benchmark of sportsmanship and class. The members of our athletic programs and activities work tirelessly in their pursuit of excellence. Our job is to provide the support necessary to ensure they have the resources to succeed. Let us continue to build on our rich traditions, and continually push the bar higher in terms of athletic excellence and sportsmanship. “WE ARE” in this together.
Thank you so much for your unwavering commitment. Each day, I look forward to continue the work we have started and for the opportunity to continue to build relationships. I am honored and privileged to be the athletic director at Reynolds High School, and I am thankful to be part of such a great school and community.
