AISM April Newsletter
April 2021
Director's Message
Dear AISM Families,
And just like that it's April! Time to spring forward into the last few months of school and finish the year strong. April always reminds me to rejuvenate and reset intentions for the remainder of the school year, while in preparation for the upcoming year. March gave us events that were memory making magic. International Day was a beautiful outdoor event, that was socially distanced and our first school wide event.
The day started with a drum call from the upper grade boys drumming with Ms.Johnson, followed by the singing of the American National anthem and the Liberian National anthem by John Razzouck, Moasiah Bility, Sarah Hariz and Mai Kamara. The Flag Ceremony organized by Mr.Parchment and the Fashion Show arranged by Ms.Kirpa were spectacular. We have included a few pictures below, there are more photos on the school website. Our MUN Speaker Series continues to be phenomenal, we welcomed Dr.Satrio Wicaksono, our 2nd speaker, who gave our students great insight about the problems the world is facing in our oceans.
There is so much to be grateful for; our campus has been opened for over 2 months; when many schools around the world remain virtual or newly opened. We are able to open doors and windows and we have large classrooms and small classes. We are fortunate to be able to hold events outdoors even with masks and socially distanced, I could see the smiling eyes of our students.
May April continue to bring us smiling eyes.
All the Best,
Dr.Bobbi

AISM Annual General Meeting

Meet New Teacher Maia Joi Headley
I am a first generation Jamaican American raised in metro Atlanta, Georgia. I have earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and a Master’s of Education in Elementary Education. I have spent the past 5 years teaching lower elementary students. My current teaching position is serving first grade refugee students. My favorite part of working with children is empowering them to strengthen their self confidence and self efficacy to become lifelong lovers of learning. We just returned to the school building early March in a hybrid model, after learning remotely for a full year. Teaching through the pandemic has been a challenge but has demonstrated the resilience of both myself and my students as we continue to thrive through the circumstances. In my free time I love to play sports, dance, travel, and be creative. I love to learn new things that help me grow and give me new perspectives.
