Reflecting on the past week...
For a short week, it sure did feel like a full one!
Tuesday's Inservice seemed to provide teachers with a variety of professional development that provided teachers with an increased understanding on how to use formatives to drive instruction and better prepare students for summative assessments, clarification on how to best meet student accommodations for those who have ISPs, and provide insight on what it means to have a Growth Mindset. A special thank you to Mrs. Littner, Mrs. Hilton, and Mr. Taylor for sharing their knowledge with the staff! If you did not provide input on each of the sessions you attended yet, please click here and provide us with your feedback.
We wrapped up the day with the first ever "Salsa Challenge!" What fun we have creating our salsa recipes and enjoying our time with colleagues. All of the recipes were delicious... and congrats to the winning team! Check out the pictures below!
Wednesday began with welcoming our students back after a long weekend, and proctoring the Pre-ACT and PSAT. Thanks to all teachers who assisted in monitoring and proctoring these tests. It is important data that, when dis-aggregated, will help us better identify teaching and learning gaps and meet the needs of all of our students.
Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Shukis shared theory on building-wide discipline. As he shared, this is a beginning of our journey investigating how to best address discipline cohesively and consistently as a school. Click here for that presentation.
We were back to school and back to a level of normalcy for Thursday and Friday and classes were again active and students engaged.
Thursday evening the Volleyball Team dedicated their game night to fighting breast cancer. Not only did the girls win, but everybody wins when we work together for a good cause! If you are still interested in donating, here is the online link to donate or checks can be made out to the Community Foundation for McHenry County. All proceeds will go towards LeAnn Golembiewski's scholarship fund, a college scholarship given to a Marian student in memory of Jenna Golembiewski's mom.
It was a good week!
What's coming up?
Although we do not have a complete 5-day week again, there will be much to do.
Two key events that are occurring this week are...
- Wednesday, Oct. 23: The Mentor Extended Homeroom topic will be "Bullying: Being an Upstander instead of a Bystander" for our freshmen. If you have homerooms for the 10th - 12th graders, please allow students to be productive during this time, catching up on work.
- Parent/Teacher Conferences are this Thursday & Friday (see schedule below). At this point the sign-up is closed to parents and all teachers should be able to pull up their conference schedule utilizing through this site... https://www.ptconferencemaker.com/marian/admin/index.html
Log on with your teacher ID number from the attached sheet and your last name.
Please prepare to discuss each of the students' current progress in your class and provide resources and assistance as needed. If at all possible, invite your students to join! It is, after all, their education! If you anticipate any potentially difficult conferences, feel free to reach out to anyone on the administration team who could join and support you in the conferences.
The week will end with our last regular football home game... senior night... hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful week!
