Weekly Updates from Big Walnut High School
Week of April 17
Our first round of end-of-course testing went very well this week. Next week will be an even bigger week with more students testing. (Please see below). Additionally, help us celebrate and thank our military-connected families next week with Ohio Military Family Spirit Week. See below for the dress-up themes.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
State End-of-Course Testing
The State of Ohio requires students to take End of Course Exams in the following content areas: Algebra I, Geometry, English II, Biology, U.S. History and American Government. If your student is currently enrolled in one of these courses, they will be taking the test in April (see schedule below). Sophomore students completing College Credit Plus Composition I are required to take the English II test. Students who are required to re-test will receive specific information regarding their test dates. During these testing weeks in mid-April, we will operate on a two hour delayed start. Students who are not in these classes and not taking the test do not have to report until 9:40am. Buses will run according to their normal schedule. Those who are testing must report to their assigned room by 7:40am. Those attending the DACC either AM/ PM will need to be in their testing location at 7:40am on testing days. Students who typically have late start will need to be in their testing location by 7:40am on their assigned testing days. Letters with additional details are being sent home via the US Postal Service.

BWHS Academic Boosters
Academic Boosters - who are we? We are a group of organized parents who provide support to help improve the academic experience for all students, parents, and staff at BWHS. We provide An Evening of Excellence in September to recognize sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned a 3.5 GPA the previous year. We sponsor the annual Academic and Military Signing in the spring for graduating seniors who have been offered college scholarships and graduating seniors who have enlisted in Military Services. Students who earn a 5 on their AP exam receive a High Five yard sign provided by and delivered to their home by members of the Academic Boosters. Our staff at BWHS is crucial to the success of our students and the academic booster parents show them just how much we appreciate them by providing a few very small tokens of appreciation during staff appreciation week in April. We have many other ideas of ways we can expand and continue to support the academic efforts of our students and staff! We are looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Meetings are typically at 6:30pm on the second Monday of each month. (No December meeting.) This year, our meetings are as follows: 5/8.
