FEBRUARY 2023 GOOD APPLES HONORED: Sartorette Teacher Jennifer Lozzio and her class, Sara Quast, and Nancy Kang
Good Apple Award Winners Recognized
The Governing Board thanked Cambrian community members for their outstanding service to the District. We are so grateful for the selfless contributions made to advance the students of the Cambrian School District. They are:
Sartorette teacher Mrs. Jennifer Lozzio and her 5th grade students: Mrs. Lozzio's fifth grade students wanted to do something big to benefit the community during the holiday season. The class chose to organize a nonperishable food drive. They added toiletries, clothing, and shoes for local families in need. In a matter of a few short weeks, this one class organized to collect over 500 nonperishable food items, over 500 pounds of clothing, and over 100 pairs of shoes, all donated from the Sartorette School community! Second Harvest Food Bank and Sacred Heart assisted the class in finding local pantries and closets accepting food and clothing. Due to their collected ambition, the whole school community rallied to support their efforts.
Sara Quast: Sara volunteered to be the lead to take care of “our barnyard” at Steindorf after our kindergarten class hatched six chickens last spring. She, along with other volunteers, has ensured that our chickens are very well cared for by feeding them, cleaning up the coop, bringing them treats, and checking on them almost daily. She is also now going to help train middle school students on how to take care of the chickens. Sara is working to develop more opportunities to get the chickens out of the coop to interact with students and teach them about the importance of taking care of animals and how we benefit from caring for them.
Nancy Kang: Nancy Kang has coordinated the Math Club for 5 years. With her help, the Price Math Club was able to have 40 participants and tailor the programs for the different grade levels. She was also responsible for all of the logistics including: organizing practice tests and formal competitions, and taking students to competitions. Mrs. Kang continued to help with the Math club long after her sons graduated from Price. She is calm, organized, patient and caring. We could not have run the Math Club without her guidance.

Dr. Beth Erickson was sworn in as the newest member of our 5-member Board of Trustees. Dr. Erickson filled the vacancy left when Mr. Donald Rocha stepped down in late 2022.

She has served as the President of the Home and School Club for Farnham Elementary School and Price Middle School. Presently, Dr. Erickson serves as the Treasurer of the Cambrian Educational Foundation (CEF). She also earned her Ph.D in physical chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania and works as the Director of Software Quality for MSD and Automation at Agilent Technologies. Welcome to the Board, Dr. Erickson!

It is understood that the administration recommends approval on all consent items. Each item on the consent agenda approved by the Board of Trustees shall be deemed to have been considered in full and adopted as recommended.

School Accountability Report Card (SARC)
The Governing Board approved the 2022 School Accountability Report Cards as part of the Consent Agenda. "Education Code Section 35256 requires the Governing Board of each school district to annually issue a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for each school in a school district, publicize such reports, and notify parents or guardians of students that a copy will be provided upon request. The SARC is completed mainly with data provided by the California Department of Education that comes from the previous school year which is why SARCs are one year behind. State law requires that the SARC contain all of the following:
-Demographic data
-School safety and climate for learning information
-Academic data
-School completion rates
-Class sizes
-Teacher and staff information
-Curriculum and instruction descriptions
-Postsecondary preparation information
-Fiscal and expenditure data Schools are required to have facility inspections
Specifically, State law requires that the facility inspection be reflected on the SARC in accordance with EC Sections 33126 and 33126.1. The Office of Public School Construction (OPSC) Facility Inspection Tool (FIT) or a locally developed instrument that meets the same legal requirements must be utilized during these inspections to determine if a school facility is in "good repair" and to rate the facility accordingly. LEAs should ensure that the data collected in the most recent available FIT report is used to populate the SARC regarding the school facility conditions and the "good repair status" of facilities.
The CSD School Accountability Report Cards for each school site can be found on the district website, https://www.cambriansd.org/site/default.aspx?PageID=2653."

The Governing Board approved Resolution 22-23-12 and allowed Cambrian to continue working with PARC Specialty Contractors and complete the HVAC Abatement Trade Services for Phase 1 Modernizations at Bagby, Fammatre, and Price Schools. On March 28, 2022, the Board awarded PARC Specialty Contractors for the Abatement Trades Contract for the HVAC Project at Bagby, Fammatre, and Price Schools based on their low bid.
Due to the associated labor costs to meet the school start deadline from the discovered asbestos putty around windows and the removal and replacement of sheetrock a total of 30.14% increase resulted over the original contracted amount. A resolution is required to continue with PARC Specialty Contractors. It has been concluded that their costs are reasonable and going out to rebid the project would delay the project and result in unnecessary expenses to the District.
