Gingerbread and Our Five Senses
Next week, we are going to start learning about our 5 senses and gingerbread - the two themes fit beautifully together. We are exploring each of our 5 senses - next week make sure to ask your child to name them!
We are also reading a different gingerbread man story each day to compare/contrast the characters and plot. At the end of the week, we will use all 5 senses and culminate our gingerbread study by baking a gingerbread man! While in past years the Gingerbread Man has usually gotten away, I have assured the children that I think I might know how to keep him in the oven this time...
Also, there's a special homework project in your child's Thursday folder that will be coming home today. The object is to disguise the gingerbread man so the fox can't find him. While I normally ask you to allow your child to do all the work, this time please assist your child by helping them fulfill their vision in a fun and creative way. (They already have some great ideas!) Feel free to add other materials that can be attached to create a fun gingerbread man disguise. In the past we have seen gingerbread boys or girls disguised as ball players, super heroes, princesses, Disney characters, doctors, pets, etc. The only limit is your child's imagination. We will begin to share them on Monday and then display them in the classroom until Christmas!
"What God Wants for Christmas"
Each day during the next two weeks our Bible time centers on the story of the nativity. We read a Bible-based poem each day and open one small “present” to display in the classroom. Each present contains a Bible character to complete our classroom nativity scene. But it is the seventh gift that the children will excitedly anticipate. The text goes like this…
“What God wants for Christmas? It’s – to you – a surprise.
In box number seven it is disguised. But – no peeking! Be patient!
For this you must wait. It’s what you offer Him, and it’s really great!”
This curriculum is from the same people who created the Resurrection Eggs, and it is sure to touch not only your child’s heart – but yours as well. Expect to hear a lot over the next two weeks from your child about what God wants for Christmas!
From my heart...
The students did the most wonderful job on Tuesday at their Christmas concert!! I am so very proud of them! What a perfect way to start this holiday season! These next few weeks are going to be full, fun and fast! In the middle of the busyness, I pray we can reflect on what's the real reason for the season, the birth of our Savior, Jesus!
Joyfully,
Mrs. Klein
