New Ideas In Europe

During the 1600s Western Europeans began to re-examine their world. As scientists performed more expiraments, they made exciting discoveries. Scientists began to better understand the basic laws that govern nature. Their new ideas about the universe began what is known as the Scientific Revolution.

This revolution began in mathematics and astronomy, but it later changed all areas of natural science. Galileo Galilei was one of the leading figures in the Scientific Revolution. He demonstrated that the planets revolve around the sun. In the late 1600s Sir Isaac Newton explained how objects on earth and in the sky behaved. His theories proved that the same laws of physics govern both. He also developed much the Scientific method use today. The scientific method requires that scientists carefully study natural events.
