Principal's News
Do you like the rain? This week has certainly tested that for many of us!
For some, they love the rain, for others, not so much! This week, it feels like the rain has been in the way. Rain can get in the way of the comfort of a dry day, the comfort of nicely styled hair, dry shoes and pressed clothes. It makes outdoor activities difficult, not ot mention flooding our country is in the midst of!
How many of us look out the window on a rainy day and say, "What a great day!" But that's exactly what God's people in the Old Testament did. When you're living in desert-like places, a rainy day is usually a good day, but even for us in Mildura this year, the rain has felt endless!
In the Bible, rain is often used as a metaphor for blessing. The Bible talks about blessings raining down on us. Perhaps there's a connection between the way we tend to respond to rain and the way we tend to respond to blessing.
God blesses us in surprising ways, ways that don't always seem like blessings. He sends the rain of difficulty, not because he doesn't love us, but because he does, and he’s calling us beyond ourselves to find new and deeper hope in him.
He sends the rain of an honest friend to confront us with the need for growth, because he wants to bless us with maturity. He sends the rain of failure, so that we’ll get our identity from him and not from our achievement. He sends the rain of want, so that we’ll grow in faith and courage. All of these things are blessings of his love, but we tend to not see them as blessings. In fact, in the moments when we’re experiencing these things we’re often tempted to question God's love.
Next time we are faced with a day of rain, try looking out your window and thanking God for the rain. May He gave us the eyes to see the surprising blessings he’ll rain down on us because of His love for us. (Adapted from a Devotion written by Paul David Tripp)
Blessings,

Staffing Update - 2023
Mrs Melissa Evans has been appointed Principal, Good Shepherd Lutheran College, Hamilton. This is a wonderful promotion for Mel and reflects her amazing skill, hard work and commitment to our Lutheran Education System. Mel will take up this position for 2023 and beyond. We thank Mr and Mrs Evans for their wonderful contributions to our college and wish them, and their boys, all the best in this exciting new chapter God has planned for them.
Mrs Jean Booysen will finish at our College at the end of 2022. Mrs Booysen and her husband have patiently built a home in the Riverland during the pandemic and the time is now right for their next chapter. Mrs Booysen has accepted a teaching role at a college in the Riverland for 2023 and beyond. We thank Jean for her incredible contributions to TLC through teaching and leadership roles, and wish her every blessing as she finishes the year with us and steps out in faith in her new role in 2023.
Mrs Terri Lynch will also finalise her time at the college this year as well. Mrs Lynch is making the move from Mildura to be closer to her precious grandchildren! Terri has been an amazing Learning Assistant and pivotal in our early years program. We will miss her and all that she brings to our school but know being so close to her family is just where God wants her to be.
We are so grateful for these amazing staff members and their roles at our college. We know that God has opened some exciting new doors, in new areas, and wish them His blessings always.

School TV - ONLINE GAMING
In this edition of SchoolTV - ONLINE GAMING
Games are an integral part of human behaviour. It is normal and healthy for young people to engage in play as a part of their daily lives, including playing games online. And like most activities, online gaming can have both positive and negative outcomes. It can be intimidating and confusing for carers trying to understand a young person’s online experiences with many considering that staring at a screen is an unhealthy habit. However, the World Health Organisation does believe that as well as the risks, there are also many positive benefits associated with online gaming and these could be key in nurturing bonds with others.
During the pandemic, there was an explosive growth of gaming as people sought much needed connection during isolation. In the media, gaming often gets bad publicity because most coverage tends to concentrate on the minority of gamers who play to such an extent that it compromises all other areas of their life. However, online gaming can teach young people many skills including teamwork, concentration, communication and problem-solving. It requires a level of interaction and skill from the player; unlike watching television, which is more passive.
Online communities provide opportunities for young people to feel socially connected and have a sense of belonging. At healthy levels, gaming can increase their self-esteem and social acceptance. However, any behaviour, when taken to extreme, can also have a negative impact on a young person’s everyday life. Understanding what your young person experiences online and knowing the warning signs if they are at risk, will help nurture a more positive relationship with online gaming and help your family find the right balance.
If you are concerned about your young person’s online gaming habits, it’s important to consider a number of factors. This edition will provide strategies in how to deal with any issues you may be experiencing.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
