CLINIC NEWS FROM NURSE LIZ:
END OF THE YEAR MEDICATION PICK-UP
Medication orders will expire at the end of this school year. If your child has either prescription or non-prescription medications in the clinic, they MUST be picked up by a parent or designated adult prior to dismissal on Wednesday, May 23. The only exceptions to this are rescue inhalers and an Epipen. If you would like, your child can come to the clinic to pick up these medications and take them home with them. We are not allowed to keep any medications in the clinic over the summer. Any medications that are not picked up by dismissal on May 23, will be disposed of in compliance with state regulations.
In August I will need new FSSD Medication Administration Forms brought in, with any prescription, non-prescription or complimentary alternative medication, that you would like me to keep and administer to your child during the 2018-2019 school year. The forms are in the clinic or can be downloaded from the FSSD website. If your child has a chronic medical condition, such a asthma, a food or insect sting allergy, seizure disorder, diabetes, etc, I will need an updated Individualized Healthcare plan. These healthcare plans are kept in the clinic.
It has been a great school year, have a safe and healthy summer!
Nurse Liz
COUNSELOR'S CORNER:
The TNReady state assessments are taking place April 17-May 2.
Listed are some strategies to help you prepare your child for the tests.
• Talk with your children about upcoming tests to help relieve test anxiety. Try not to overemphasize the tests. Help them build self-confidence by making sure they understand you just want them to make their best efforts.
• Encourage your children to take their time in answering the test questions and to answer every question. It is not a race to the finish. Taking time to read the question really well can make a big difference.
• Stick to normal routines. Adequate sleep and proper nutrition are important throughout the school year. A good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast can promote learning every day and are especially important to help start each morning as alert as possible.
• Make sure your children arrive at school on time without the need to rush to the testing location.
PTO NEWS:
I have served as one of your PTO Coordinators for the past 4 years. It has been a joy to serve along side so many of you. I plan to step back next year and serve in other areas but want to make you aware of some wonderful opportunities we have available for YOU! Don’t think you need to wait until you’ve been here longer, or you know more people, your children are older, or any of those things that sometimes whisper in the back of your head. This is a great opportunity to get involved, serve your PGS family, create new friendships. We NEED families to step into these positions as others move on so as to not lose the benefits they provide to our children, teachers, and school. I highly encourage you to reach out to me, anyone on PTO, or Mr. Treadway if you would like to consider one of these positions:
* Hospitality Committee Coordinator - We would love to have two. Grab a friend!
* Scholastic Book Fair Coordinators - Needs 2 people, again, grab a friend.
* BooHoo Kindergarten Parent Breakfast Coordinators - Need 2 current Kindergarten parents.
* Store Fundraisers Coordinator - Very easy beginning of the year set up
* Room Parent Coordinators - One for Elementary and one for Middle School
* Fall Fest Coordinator
Thanks so much for considering,
Kristen Brown
GRADE LEVEL NEWS:
5TH GRADE NEWS:
Hi Parents,
Can you believe we are on the downward slope to the year's end?!?!? Fifth grade celebrated Honor Roll and other Academic milestones with your kids in the past month. We are so happy to see so many kids receiving Honor Roll, or even hard workers' awards. Your children have been working so hard the past few months as we prepare for TN Ready State Testing. Just a quick reminder: make sure your kiddos get plenty of rest the nights before testing so they can feel alert and prepared for the day.
Now that it's getting nice out, please remind your sweet kids to bring appropriate shoes for outdoor play. A friendly reminder that deodorant is always welcomed, as well:)
