A Message from Ms. Ellison
Dear Glen Grove Families,
This week has been very busy at Glen Grove. There have been several reading and writing celebrations across classrooms as many of our units are wrapping up and shifting to non-fiction. Additionally, we successfully completed a fire drill. Our Gators did a great job!
We are all looking forward to our Halloween/Fall celebration on Monday afternoon. A HUGE thank you to the PTA for all of their efforts and hard work in making these parties a success for all. They have designed great activities with lots of wonderful materials. The PTA has supplied all the materials needed for the party, so please do not send candy or toys to be passed out at school.
A quick reminder around Halloween costumes. In order to make sure that this event is fun for all students, there are a few rules around our school Halloween costumes. Your child is welcome to bring or wear a costume to school on Monday. If they are wearing the costume in the morning, please make sure that it is a costume that will not distract the learning environment as we will have regular classes in the morning. It is very hard to do math in a huge blow up costume! Additionally, please do not send your child to school with violent costumes, masks that cover their entire face, or pretend weapons. Teachers and students will not be able to apply makeup or hair color in the middle of the day, so please save those fun accents for trick or treating.
Thanks for your continued support and partnership! Please feel free to reach out with any comments, questions, or concerns. Your feedback is valued!
In partnership,
Kate Ellison
Glen Grove Principal

The Food Services department is experiencing unprecedented staff shortages. To continue to provide meals to students in this environment, we may need to adjust to a limited menu, removing the hot entree option. This change may happen on any given day, at one or multiple schools. We will provide information to families at a particular school if this does happen, though communication may occur on short notice.
We appreciate your understanding!

SCIENCE CORNER
3rd grade continues to explore forces and motion in a variety of ways! We have explored the idea of making predictions using patterns in our tennis ball drop lab by practicing making strong observations, data collection, and visually representing our data in graphs. Some classes have moved on to investigating how invisible forces such as static electricity and magnetism can cause and object to move or change it's direction of motion without even touching that object! It's magic they say, but I say IT'S SCIENCE!!!!
A few of our 5th grade classes took some time to get messy with science and revisit the idea of physical vs chemical changes with a quick Oobleck investigation. Thank goodness for the nice weather is what I am sure the teachers were thinking after they saw how many students had Oobleck covered hands (almost everyone!). Soon it will be Halloween slime time for 5th grade, so stay tuned!

GG service club projects
Beginning next week, a box will be placed outside the school to collect candy wrappers. Trick or Trash is a great way to show students the importance of recycle and reuse. You may watch a short video here explaining how the process works. Wrappers will be collected through November 18th.
