INDIANA COLLEGE CORE AT RCHS
ICC UPDATE
The Indiana College Core (ICC) is a block of 30 credit hours that can be applied to any Indiana Public College. Although sophomores cannot take any specific ICC classes, Spanish 1 and 2 are prerequisite courses for Spanish 3, which is an ICC course. As a freshman and sophomore, you could also be collecting college credits to add to your total credits to potentially earn an Associate’s Degree (60 total credit hours)! As a junior, there are a series of classes that you will take to prepare you for the ICC. Please make sure to indicate to your counselor if this is the route you are wanting to take. Even if you are an incoming senior, it is not too late to get your ICC! Talk with your counselors and Mr. Bottomley to look at your schedule and get a plan in place!
GREATNESS FROM STAFF AND STUDENTS
BISON Award Winner
Congratulations to science teacher Brad Lawler for being chosen as our next Bison Award Winner!!! Mr. Lawler was chosen by Ag teacher Mrs. Wagner. Mrs. Wagner stated that Mr. Lawler is very dedicated to RCHS and the kids and is quick to help anywhere he is needed. He is a huge backer and volunteer for FFA! Mr. Lawler puts kids first! He coaches middle school and high school wrestling and also coaches track! Thank you Mr. Lawler for your dedication to the kids of RCHS!!
Staff Members of the Month
This last Tuesday Natalie Hornsby and Jan Thoman were nominated as RCHS staff members of the month. I have thrown a lot of things at them this year and they have taken it and ran with it. Almost daily I walk in with something new or a tweak here or there and the only response I get is we can make that happen! Many of the Natalie and Jan's colleagues call them the dynamic duo and have nothing but praise for the things they do for kids. They just consider this doing their job but we here at RCHS know it is much more than that!
Student of the Month
Congratulations Triston "Bill" Seymour for being named the RCHS student of the month. Triston's story is nothing short of amazing and is the perfect example of what can be accomplished when you really want it! Triston dropped out of school to support his new wife and daughter. After establishing some sort of normalcy he decided to come back to school. Triston enrolled in Opportunity School and earned 15 credits this year and has now graduated. If that is not difficult enough he came into school most days after working a double shift as a diesel mechanic. Full time job, full time student, and full time husband and father! Triston has applied for college and wants to get involved with social work.
TEAMWORK
We hosted a Gymnastics Invitational last weekend. In order to do this ALL of the equipment needed to be moved out of the gymnastics room and into the gym. If you have ever had to do this the time and effort that goes into it. The gymnastics team and the wrestling team joined forces and had this equipment set up in no time! That is just the way it is here at RCHS. Someone needs help and people step up!!
STAFF SHOUT OUTS
Amaranta Kemple - Big shout out to all of the Spanish 3 students! They went above and beyond in their last presentations. Collin McCartt - Shout out to Lindsay Tillison for putting together a great T-Swift lesson for her students!
GREATNESS IN THE CLASSROOM
Lesson on T. Swift
Mrs. Tillison has been working on Literary words in sophomore English. First off you need to know that Mrs. Tillison is a Swifty! Some of her students disagree with her taste in music so what does a good teacher do. Turn it into a lesson that involves literary words. In two days she completely revamped what she was going to do for this particular lesson and put together a lesson involving Taylor Swift and her music. Looking at the lyrics as poems they discussed the what these music lyrics meant. It was a great way to grab the attention of all of her students and a fun lesson to watch!!
Biology
Mrs. Rinard used hands on learning in her Biology class. The students built DNA model!!
BUILDING HOUSES
Students are designing and learning how to build homes in Mr. Smith's Principles of Construction Trades class. They design and build scale models of homes and they work on real material to learn the techniques. It is very impressive to see what our kids can design and the skills that they posses.
