BCA Parent Organization Update
Thank you to all the parents that attended our last meeting on March 12th. The officers for the 2018-2019 school year will be:

We have many opportunities for parents to get involved. If you would like to join the BCA Parent Organization, please email farringtonk@rcschools.net or text @3gbh2K to 81010 to join the REMIND group. A sign-up genius will be sent after spring break for parents to sign up to bring in items for upcoming BCA senior events. Our seniors have worked very hard to get to this point and we want to celebrate them!
On April 4th, we will have BCA Parent Organization day at Donato's Pizza located at 3284 Franklin Rd. Donato's will donate 15% of sales to us. Please make plans to support BCA and enjoy some great food April 4th.
Our next meeting will be April 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center. We would love to have many more BCA Parents join our organization!

New state law prohibits phone use in school zones
Tennessee enacted a new law beginning in January that prohibits the use of cell phones by drivers in school zones. The new law states: "It is an offense to use a hand-held mobile telephone to make or receive a phone call while driving a motor vehicle in a marked school zone."

ILEAD ACT Prep to be held Feb. 17 - April 7 - SPACE LIMITED
In preparation for the free ACT, the organization ILEAD is offering a prep course that will be held at Blackman High School on Saturday’s from Feb. 17 through April 7. ILEAD ACT Prep hosted three 5-week sessions last fall in partnership with the Admission department at MTSU. This will be its last session of the school year and there is only room for 100 students per session — first come, first serve.

Life Experience Opportunity: Rutherford County Relay for Life
Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, June 30th from noon to midnight at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum.
RUTHERFORD WORKS SUMMER CAMPS
For the fourth consecutive year, Rutherford Works is excited to facilitate camps that inspire students to explore careers in growing industry sectors within Rutherford County.
With more than 10,000 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) jobs expected to grow in the next 10 years, your student can get a jump start toward a high wage, high demand career.
These summer camps are available for elementary, middle, and high school students.
No prior experience is needed. Courses are taught by experienced educators from right here in Rutherford County who are passionate about helping students expand their knowledge, understanding, and interests.

Innovation J-Camp for Rising Freshmen
Students who will begin their freshman year in high school in the fall of 2018 are eligible for Innovation J-Camp. Camp will be held July 9-13, 2018 at the Center for Innovation in Media at the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University. Cost of the camp is $150, lunches included. UTK READING & SPEED READING PROGRAMS
Program for entering 9th-11th graders: May 30-June 27
In these effective and enjoyable programs, your son or daughter will make substantial gains in comprehension and learn to read twice as fast. Students learn the best way to take notes, study for tests, and read fiction, non-fiction, and textbooks. Your student will complete homework more quickly and easily, get better grades, and enjoy reading more.
Program for entering 12th graders: Several schedules available
You will learn to read twice as fast in difficult material, such as textbooks and other challenging non-fiction, and triple your speed in easier reading. The comprehension, concentration, and retention techniques you learn will enable you to save time and get more out of everything you read.

Life Experience
Students must complete 40 hours of real-life experience in the area of his/her major. The experience must be approved by the faculty board. This experience can be completed any year but must be completed by April of the senior year. The experience may or may not be a part of the student’s senior research project. The experience should be meaningful and provide insight into the field of study the student is interested in. If you have already completed one of these classes in school please circle it on the form and write what year you took it.

Students can come by Mrs. Noffsinger's room in D-1 to get a form or click here to access the form on the BCA website. Forms should be turned in to Mrs. Noffsinger in D-1 or put in her mailbox. Experiences to be completed next summer must be submitted no later than May 1, 2017. The application is due 30 days prior to the experience in order to be approved by the committee. All life experience hours must be complete by April of your senior year.
