LEADERSHIP SERIES

INTRODUCING THE FIRST EVER LEADERSHIP SERIES HERE IN MERRILL

FIRST OF TWO SERIES THIS SCHOOL YEAR: THE SECOND WILL BE ANNOUNCED IN THE SPRING

What is the Leadership Series?

Leadership comes in many different forms. Some people don't even realize that they are leaders. What kind of leaders are there?

1. Vocal Leaders

2. Quiet Leaders

3. Academic Leaders

4. Performance Leaders and more

As we grow up into young men and woman, we have seen how others have led. Our beliefs have been developed by watching others lead.

Our Moral and Ethical compasses have been developed by which we have been surrounded with. Influences such as our Parents, Siblings, Uncles, Aunts, Coaches, Teachers, College Athletes, Professional Athletes, Presidents and so on.

I still remember growing up and listening to what my coaches and favorite teachers said and I took as "GOLD". I was told by them that I was a natural leader. I thought to myself, sure; whatever that means. It was't till Mr. Schushler, my high school counselor took me and a few other players to an elementary school and introduced us to a few 5th grade classes. I was blown away almost to tears, well actually tears, but I had to hold them in. Students were telling me all about my football stats. They knew them better than me. They knew my jersey number, how many games I have started at my position and they wanted my autograph on their planners and news articles they had clipped out and had saved.

One dad even brought in a framed article and had me personally sign it for his son. He went onto explain that his son has this article hung up in his room and cheers every time he hears my number called in a game.

We have people looking to us on how to do things the right way. This series is to show not only these students they are leaders, but to what degree their decision on and off the playing fields have in others lives.

Whatever type of leader you are, I ask you this: What type of impression are you going to leave on someone? More importantly, what type of person are you going to become as you grow into a leader.

What steps are these young leaders taking?

On January 7, 2016; these students found out that they have been selected to represent the first ever Leadership Series here in Merrill. Are these the first ever leaders here in Merrill, of course not. Merrill wouldn't be here unless there had been many more in the past to build upon.

These young leaders had no idea what was ahead of them before Jan. 7. All of these young leaders were introduced to this series and were told about the expectations of them. They also where given an assignment. Their assignment was to answer the following questions and then asked to live by them.

1. What does it mean to be a leader to them?

2. What does the Merrill Community want out of them as Leaders?

3. What is their main goal in this position?

4. In 5 years from today, what type of person do you see?
