A Note From Mrs. Mathe
Thank you for responding to our instructional platform surveys. We are busy making adjustments on campus to ensure that we will be able maintain the safety measures we have put in place with the additional in person students. One change that is happening, that will affect our remote learners, is that teachers will now be instructing our in person learners at the same time as our remote learners. Due to this adjustment, Zoom times may have to change. The teachers will communicate the new times to their families on their weekly email. Along with this change, teachers will no longer have the time in their daily schedule for office hours. All Powell teachers will be available to meet with our remote learners as needed. Please contact the teacher to set up a meeting time if needed. (If a teacher observes a need for a conference with a student, they may contact you to schedule a meeting time as well).
Dr. Null will provide a live update on Wednesday, October 7, at 6 PM on the Conroe ISD YouTube Channel. He will give a review of the first nine weeks and a look ahead at the second nine weeks. Anyone unable to view the update live will be able to access it on the Conroe ISD Facebook page and YouTube Channel.

Walk to School Event
Our school is participating in The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department’s 2020 Walk the Pathways Competition! The school with the most participating students will win a trophy and special first place prize. Walk the Pathways is a friendly, socially-distanced competition between elementary schools to encourage outdoor activity and promote pedestrian safety through experience and games.
Please support our efforts by pledging online to walk the pathways near your home or our school at least once between Sunday, October 11 through Saturday, October 24.
How to participate:
1. Choose a park or pathway near your home or school to visit between October 11-October 24.
2. Show school spirit! Sport your school colors on your walk, chalk the sidewalk with fun art or inspiring phrases or leave painted rocks.
3. Submit an online pledge declaring you walked the pathways. One entry per student.
4. Post a picture of you walking the path on the Powell Facebook page or on Twitter with the #powellwalks.
Optional:
Visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/walkthepathwayscontest for:
· An interactive park and pathway map to plan your route
· Tips and videos about pedestrian safety to review before starting your walk
· Guides for games to “level up” such as chalking the sidewalk, leaving painted rocks and identifying wildlife, trees or plants
o A limited number of chalk kits (3 pieces) are available for students that do not have chalk at home. Call the school to confirm availability.
Thank you for supporting our school. If you have questions, please contact Powell at 936-709-1700 directly or contact The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department at 281-210-3800 or enviro@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.

Nominations for Gifted and Talented Testing
Nominations are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January for both remote and in-person platforms, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or teachers.
All 2nd grade students will take the CogAT assessment in December. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child. The CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment.
If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at conferences. Referrals will be accepted through December 18. The referral form is attached and will need to be completed and emailed to Sarah Radford at sradford@conroeisd.net. Your child may also return a printed copy to their teacher that can be turned into the front office.
