STAAR testing Information

Biker/ Walker Dismissal

To increase student safety, we have made some miner changes to our biker/walker dismissal. As with any change, it may take a little bit longer the first few days or so, so we ask for your patience with this new process.

  • Kinder and first grade parents will pick up their students from Door 15 (this is the same door that kindergarten has always dismissed from) First grade students will remain inside the building until parents show the staff member at the door their sign.
  • 2nd-4th grade students that are allowed to be released without an adult will be walked in a line to the playground and be released.
  • Second and third grade students who are released to parents will dismiss from Door 14. Parents will show their sign at the door and their student will be released to them.
  • Fourth grade students who are released to parents will dismiss from door 13. Parents will show their sign at the door and their student will be released to them.

Summer Move A Possibility?

If you currently have plans to move over the summer please contact our registrar, Stacey Randall - (srandall@conroeisd.net or 936-709-1610). There will be a Summer Mover Form sent to you via your child. We ask that you complete it and send it back to school. If some of the information is not known, we can update via email as needed. This will help in planning for the next year. If you are a fourth-grade parent, and your child will not be attending Mitchell Intermediate, I will let Mitchell know of the possible summer move.

Summer GT Testing Referral Window

The referral window for summer Gifted and Talented testing will be open April 3-28. You may refer your student for summer testing during this time. If your student participated in the Spring testing (2nd Grade CogAT or Spring Testing), they may not participate in this round of testing.

Summer testing information:

Tuesday, May 30-Thursday June 1

8:00-11:00 AM at Bush Elementary

*Students must be present all three days to participate

If you are interested in having your student test during the summer, please pick up a referral form from the front office.

2023-2024 New Kindergarten Student Registration

Transportation Changes

Transportation changes must be made in writing before 2:00 PM. We cannot accept transportation changes by phone. To submit a transportation change, you may send a written note to the front office with the following information:

  • the date
  • your child's full name
  • homeroom teacher
  • bus number (if applicable)
  • your signature

If an emergency arises, you may send an email to bush@conroeisd.net. The e-mail must include all of the above information and must be received before 2:00 PM. If you submit a transportation change by email, it must go to the email address referenced above. Teachers do not check their email regularly throughout the day, so transportation changes should not be emailed directly to the teacher. Please send a new note for each day the change occurs; we cannot accept notes for multiple days or with multiple changes. District policy states that a student may only ride the bus they are registered to ride; students may not have a transportation change to ride a different bus.

Counseling Lessons

In our last round of counseling lessons, we focused on a variety of topics to support resilience, friendship skills, preparations for STAAR testing and peer pressure. If you have any questions about these topics feel free to reach out to your student’s grade-level counselor.

In Kindergarten we read the book “The Most Magnificent Thing” and talked about resiliency. We should try again when we are in difficult situations and never give up.

In First grade we sorted out what it means to be a good friend, and how to lose a friend. Sometimes we don’t realize that our actions can cause us to lose a friend so it is important to be aware of what we do.

Second graders read The Not So Friendly Friend by Christina Furnival. We discussed important character traits that are ‘keys to friendship”. We also discussed the importance of setting boundaries with friends if they are treating you in a way that is unkind. Students learned it’s ok to set boundaries but we need to set them in a respectful manner.

In preparation for STAAR, third grade students had a lesson on test anxiety. They learned how worry may develop and strategies to reduce worry through daily self-care and coping strategies.

Fourth graders had a lesson on peer pressure. We read Peer Pressure Gauge by Julia Cook and discussed how peer pressure may slowly increase over time. Students learned the importance of preparing for peer pressure situations beforehand by identifying their values. We also discussed how to use “polite doubt” as a strategy in peer pressure situations.

Safety Information

The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance. Over the past decade, Conroe ISD has spent millions of dollars on a layered approach to campus safety including the installation of secure entrances and vestibules along with adding security cameras throughout our schools. Our greatest safety measure, however, is vigilance. Please report any suspicious activity or suspected dangers to the appropriate authorities. Anonymous reports may be made 24/7 to Conroe ISD’s KidChat hotline at 1-888-KidChat (543-2428) or through our new Anonymous Alerts app. Login: conroeisd
