Howdy, Lobos!
In case you were unable to join us for our 2nd Grade Meet and Greet, PSA is excited to introduce and welcome our newest member to the Prestwick family, 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Liz Barriero. Mrs. Barriero is coming to us from Forney Independent School District, where she taught for the past three years. She is a proud graduate of Texas Women’s University and is a highly qualified teacher in all core subjects from Early Childhood to 8th grade, including having her English as a Second Language Certification.
Each year, Mrs. Barriero’s two personal goals are to help students discover their love for learning and challenge them to grow to their fullest potential. “Throughout my schooling, there were a few teachers who really made a difference in my life and I hope to do the same for my past, present, and future students.”
Mrs. Barrier is married to her wonderful husband, Jacob, and have three large fur-babies. Jacob, recently accepted a new job position in Corinth, hence the Barriero family relocation to the local area. In Mrs. Barriero's spare time, she enjoys all types of crafting, especially using her Cricut, and spending quality time with friends and family.
PSA is also happy to have Mrs. Barriero as part of our family!

Prestwick STEM Academy students are participating in the Kindness Challenge of 2018. During the week learners and facilitators are taking place in a variety of events which challenge us to find ways to connect with one another, show tolerance and most importantly create a culture of kindness. We kicked off our first annual "Mix It Up Wednesday" during middle school lunches. Students were given random numbers and sat at corresponding tables with "new to them" peers. Each table had fun questions that could serve as conversation starters. Questions asked students to share where they would go in a zombie apocalypse as well as if they would rather walk through a pit of snakes or scorpions. Additionally they could brainstorm something they all had in common.
Students attended this lunch "unplugged" (aka - technology free) so they could have some time to focus on one another and get to know people they don't normally sit with. After some warm up time, it was great to see smiles and laughs from all our participants. Mix It Up Wednesdays are definitely something that helped us get to know on another in a fun way. Who knows Mix It Up Wednesdays may come back for future fun!!!! Hats of to Ronna Wyse, Media Specialist and Sandy Burrell, Counselor for planning for our Prestwick Kindness Challenge.
