Medical Detectives is a brand new 18 week course to our school. The class is part of Project Lead the Way (PLTW) and sponsored by Medina County Career Center. The focus is biomedical science and career exploration.

This first group of 7th grade students to take the course did an amazing job and were very involved in the curriculum and labs. In the first unit, students learned how to take vital signs, designed an experiment, tested the effectiveness of antibiotics, and diagnosed patients with bacterial, viral, and fungal illnesses. In the following unit, students learned about the nervous system by creating neuron models, studying a sheep brain, and diagnosing a patient with a neurological disorder and finding the lesion inside another sheep brain. The course concluded with an outbreak where students diagnosed patients, identified the food source, tested patient samples, and produced a newscast.

We are grateful to provide such a student centered, hands-on course for students. Root students were impressive with their hard work and maturity in this class.

The 6th grade Marvels team collected items for the Battered Women's Shelter of Medina. The students were able to make up 74 bags.

The 6th Grade Incredibles Team worked together to create holiday cards for residents at Brookdale Senior Center. They wanted to spread some cheer and kindness this holiday season. We appreciate all of the wonderful contributions from our STePS parent group and the incredible effort the students put towards this project.
