Welcome Back... You Were Missed
A big thanks to all of you for your kindness during the holidays. The goodies for the teachers' lounge, plants, gift cards, and candy were truly appreciated by all of us. Our Rosa Parks' parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles are the best. Thank you for allowing us to educate your children. It is truly a privilege to serve you.
Please welcome Myrna Liedel as our school nurse while Mrs. Knepp is on special assignment with Central Office. If you have any health related questions, feel free to contact the front office and they will transfer you to Ms. Liedel.
I say put books in students' hands, but I want to also say thank you for encouraging your children to read using a program called Lexia. Lexia is a research based program and students who are using it are consistently showing academic growth in reading. It is important to read a certain number of minutes but more importantly moving to the next level. Our 4th and 5th graders need to spend an average of 80 minutes a week on Lexia. A huge benefit of the program is that it identifies areas where a student needs support and the classroom teacher can individualize reading instruction. Please ask your child's teacher about Lexia.
Beginning in January, we will start sending student school laptop computers home. Attached below is a letter about these laptop computers. Computers MUST come back the next day. Our students use their computers everyday in the classroom so it is going to be important that they come back to school each day fully charged.
STUDENT ILLNESSES AND ABSENCES
If your child has ANY symptoms of illness, please keep them home. If your child will stay home from school, please call the school to let us know 703-580-9665 or email millerdg@pwcs.edu and ferransm@pwcs.edu.
All Parents must complete the PWCS DAILY Health Screening for each of their students EVERY DAY before they leave for school each day: https://www.pwcs.edu/cms/One.aspx?portalId=340225&pageId=43888626 This is to ensure everyone's health and safety while attending school. At this time, we have not been notified that PWCS is changing the number of quarantine days. Please contact us if you have any questions.
(Health related questions can be sent to Mrs. Ferrandino, at ferransm@pwcs.edu and Mrs. Miller at millerdg@pwcs.edu for attendance purposes.)
Home/school connection projects
Thank you for being an active member of your child's education. The home/school connection projects for December were awesome. The snow globes created in third grade were displayed in the front show cases. Let's see what January brings.
