Attention 7th grade parents! *Important Scheduling information below.

Attention seventh-grade parents:

Now that Spring has arrived, we are beginning our planning and scheduling process for the 2021-2022 academic year. Students who are approaching their eighth-grade year have some class scheduling decisions to make now; these decisions will affect your student both next year and in high school.

Decision 1 - World Language: As a high school graduation requirement, students must complete either two years of a world language or one year of a world language supplemented with four visual and performing arts credits. TKMS offers Spanish I and French I to allow more flexibility in your child’s high school schedule. If your child is a band and/or choir student, click here as students who opt to take a world language and band and/or choir will have a scheduling conflict.

Decision 2 - Health: Health is a high school graduation requirement that is offered at TKMS. Eighth-grade students are automatically enrolled in health class. However, if your child has a scheduling conflict because of band/choir/world language class, there are other times that your child can fulfill that credit: high school, during the summer (independently online), or by attempting to test out.

On April 22nd, I will be meeting with students during math classes to discuss these scheduling options. During this time, students will complete a form to choose which world language they plan to take and when they plan to take that. Please talk to your student in advance of that meeting to help them make these decisions. I will send a follow up email to parents with what their student chose.

If you have questions, please contact the Middle School Student Services Office at 269-795-5475 or email TKMS Counselor, Steve Guikema, at sguikema@tkschools.org.

***Important Schools of Choice Information ***

Thornapple Kellogg's School of Choice window will be April 12 - May 14, 2021. In order to help with our planning for the number of application openings to post, we are asking for your assistance.
