ISOK High School
10/9/2020
From the Principal's Desk
I want to remind you that we are on a Block Schedule, which means that our "semesters" are only 9 weeks long. Whereas in a traditional setting, students would be in the same classes from August through December, and the second half of those classes from January through May, our Block scheduling has students in the same classes from August through Fall Break, and the second half from Fall Break through December. Additionally, a whole new set of courses would be assigned from January through March, and their second halves from March through May. Essentially, our classes are broken up into quarters, rather than halves.
What this means for you is that you need to be passing your courses before we go on Fall Break to be able to earn the credits for them. Fall Break is this Thursday and Friday (10/15-10/16). All work and assignments are due by 11am on Wednesday 10/14 to be included in your final grade!
On Monday 10/19, we begin Block 2, and all students will be starting from scratch in new courses. It is imperative you reach out to your teachers as soon as possible to find out what you need to do to get your grades up to passing before Wednesday 10/14. It's not too late for you! You can do it!
Please have a great week and finish out the block by passing all your courses. When you pass a course, you earn a credit. And when you earn enough credits, you graduate! That's what we are here to help you to do!
Please review the information below for news and updates about our school!
New Survey for Night School
Principal Safe has created a NEW survey that you will you use to sign up for Night School. Please understand that the school is providing teachers to support you during the evenings, so it is important that you commit to attending and participating for the evenings on which you sign up. Please do not sign up if you do not intend to participate regularly.
Here is the survey: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=LUmWRm1kPE2UZWxaNvMaFiP6QeuujJ1Cu48-2iiEldpUQTFCRzhPNUdRQklIQ0syNTM4M09XS1daNS4u
This survey is a contract by which you will commit to attending for at least 30 minutes on the evening(s) for which you sign up.
About Night School
All students who commit to Night School will be enrolled into a full sleight of courses through our Edmentum software. These courses are self-paced in nature. Students log into a 3rd party website to complete work. Each Unit in Edmentum has a student completing a pretest, informative modules, and a Mastery Test. Performance on the pretest could potentially exempt the student from other lessons within the modules, allowing the student to "skip through" what he or she already knows and just work on the content that he or she does not know. If you commit to Night School, you commit to attending at least 30 minutes each week on a specific night. When you attend, the teachers will look at your progress in Edmentum and target their communications for any gaps in your courses where you may need assistance.
Night School will allow you to earn credits more quickly and on your own time. You'll have the entire 9-week period to complete your course, but if you work diligently, you can complete it earlier, and be eligible to add even more courses and earn more credits.
And remember, when you earn more credits, you can graduate!
Is Night School right for you? Fill out the survey above to commit to Night School!
