Letter from Principal Janis Williams about the First Week of School:
Plano West students and parents,
Our teachers are so excited to meet their students tomorrow in their virtual classrooms. Students and parents can now access student schedules via Parent Portal. Please note that if you have not completed the annual registration process, you will not be able to view the schedule. Additionally, if there are any holds such as Chromebook/textbook fines, library fees, or missing paperwork, you will need to resolve them so that you are able to view the schedule. More information regarding annual registration may be found at https://www.pisd.edu/Page/17458.
Once they have their schedule, they will need to log into the PISD web desk. Once they have logged into web desk, students will need to follow these instructions to log into their "virtual backpacks" and to join each of their teacher's Google classrooms using a "join code." They need to join each of their teacher's Google classrooms before 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12th. Once they join each of their Google classrooms, they will find information on how to access their "virtual classroom" for each of their courses.
Please note that August 12th, 13th, and 14th will all be synchronous (teacher and students will be live in a virtual classroom) learning days. Teachers will spend these three days of class building their classroom community and getting students acquainted with accessing course materials. Attendance will be taken.
We will have an alternate bell schedule during the All Remote learning period starting August 12th and ending September 4th. Students are expected to be present in their "virtual classroom" by the start of the class period. Students will have a 6 minute "virtual passing period" to log into their next "virtual classroom."
Again, students can find the links to each teacher's virtual classroom by joining their teachers' Google classrooms via their "virtual backpack" found on the PISD web desk. (Instructions are in the paragraph above.)
I will be sending information on what next week will look like as far as synchronous and asynchronous periods later in the week. I don't want to overwhelm anyone with too much information as once. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and partnership!
Go Wolfpack!
Sincerely,
Janis Williams
Remote Bell Schedule:
An Important Message from the Plano West Counselors:
Dear Wolfpack Families,
We hope everyone is doing well and ready to begin the new school year. Please review this information in its entirety. Counselors are continuing to work on student schedules to fix conflicts and update each student’s most current selected face-to-face or remote learning environment.
Plano West student schedules are live via Parent Portal. If you or your child accessed a schedule via the 'My Backpack' app, please disregard it because it may not be the most updated schedule.
Please note that if parents/guardians have not completed the annual registration process in Parent Portal or if there are holds on the student’s schedule due to fines or missing paperwork, the schedule will not be accessible. For questions accessing Parent Portal, please send a message to ParentPortal@pisd.
In order to fix schedule conflicts, counselors have used students’ alternate course requests noted on academic conference summaries from spring 2020. At times counselors have needed to change arrival times to accommodate course requests and learning environments.
Requests for schedule changes will be accepted starting August 11. Complete this FORM to make a request. Change requests will be limited to the following schedule needs only:
A student is enrolled in a class for which credit has already been earned
A senior student is missing a course on the schedule that is a graduation requirement
Senior student has US Government and Economics courses in the same semester or missing one of those courses in fall semester
UIL athletics or fine arts course missing or in wrong period
Please note that all course request changes are subject to seat and learning environment availability and any change request may result in other classes and/or teachers changing in order to accommodate the request.
Counselors are unable to accept change requests related to the following:
A student wants to change electives
A student wants a teacher change
A student wants to change lunch periods or move classes around in the schedule
A student wants to change a class for 2nd semester. Information will be provided later in the fall semester to make corrections to spring semester schedules.
We appreciate your patience as counselors work with schedules for a large number of course offerings and two different instructional settings.
We are excited to welcome the Wolfpack back to Plano West!
