During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox announced an executive order to enact a public safety curfew during the novel coronavirus public health crisis. The order is designed to slow the spread of COVID-19 by placing restrictions on large group gathering in public spaces between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly. The curfew goes into effect Friday, March 27 and expires April 3 at midnight, unless it is extended.
Hello? May I Speak To...
Teachers in TCS began the task of connecting with families yesterday as part of an effort to check in with students and see if any supports are needed during the closure. While the system awaits guidance from the state on the eventual return to school, the calls are designed to strengthen contingency plans for e-learning should the need exist. Parents should expect to receive a phone call from your child's teacher before the weekend to determine if students have access to the internet and devices while at home.
In the meantime, students have been provided with academic resources designed to help them review, reinforce and practice materials learned prior to spring break.
