Every quarter our ELD teachers will work together to publish a newsletter that provides important information and tips for a successful year. We hope the families of our multilingual learners find this resource valuable!

What is Back to School Night?
Back-to-School Night is when parents come into Pine Road School in the evening to meet their child's teacher and get information about classes.
Grownups of students who are English Learners can come early at 6:30 PM to meet ELD teachers. Then they will go to meet the classroom teacher at 7:00 PM.
OCTOBER
- October 3- PTA (Parent Teacher Association) Meeting at 7:00-8:00 PM
- October 5 - All Schools closed for a holiday
- October 12 - Early Dismissal at 12:00 PM
- October 24- All Schools closed for a holiday
- October 31- Pine Road Halloween parade 9:45-10:45 AM
What is Early Dismissal?
On Early Dismissal days, the school day is over at 12:00 PM. School starts at the regular time (8:45 AM), but Pine Road dismissal will start at 12:00 PM. You should expect your child to come home early on these days.
NOVEMBER
November 1 - Rain date for Halloween parade from 9:45-10:45 AM
November 7- Picture Retake Day
November 15- PTA Meeting at Pine Road 9:30-10:30 AM
November 18- Early Dismissal at 12:00 PM for all schools
November 21- Early Dismissal at 12:00 PM for parent teacher conferences at Pine Road School and Murray Avenue Schools only
November 22- Early Dismissal at 12:00 PM for parent teacher conferences at Pine Road School and Murray Avenue Schools only
November 23- No school for students - Parent teacher conferences from 8:00AM- 1:00PM for all schools
November 24- All schools closed for a holiday
November 25- All schools closed for a holiday
What is a Parent Teacher Conference?
Your child's teacher will contact you to schedule a day and time for you to come into school and meet together. This is time to discuss your child's academic progress for the year and ask any questions that you may have. Translators can always be provided if you would like one. Please notify the teacher if you would like to use a translator for your conference.
TERMS TO KNOW
These are words we use many times in school. Here are some definitions so you know what they mean.
- EL= English Learner - are students who are learning to speak English.
- ML= Multilingual Learner - are students who speak/understand more than one language.
- ELD= English Language Development - this is the name of our lanaguage program
HOMEWORK CLUB
- Homework club meets every Wednesday at Pine Road after school from 3:30-4:30 PM starting on October 19th.
- It is completely free!! This is a great way for your child to receive extra help with homework and is also a time they can receive skill practice.
- You must pick up your child at 4:30 from Pine Road School. Transportation home is not provided.
- Please register HERE on or before October 10th!

Pine Road Handbook for Students and Families
Please take time to read through the Pine Road Handbook. This resource will provide you with information regarding arrival and dismissal, absence procedures, and the Code of Conduct.
Specifically, the handbook includes information about how to download the FirstView app to track your child's bus. This is especially helpful during dismissal.
