JMMS Weekly Update
May 14, 2021
Principal's Message
Principal's Message
Last week's message was a message for the moms; this week, it is all business. We are fast approaching the end of the year, and we see the same behaviors that we do at the end of any school year. We encourage you to talk with your child about finishing strong, don't give up academically or socially regardless of how much time remains.
Next week we are finally returning to 5 days a week. Students will attend school on Wednesdays through the end of the year. If your child is online, then they will no longer have access to office hours on Wednesdays. This upcoming Wednesday, students will participate in MAPs Testing. Students will participate in a Reading, Math, and Language Usage test between now and the end of the year. This data is only for AUSD, and it will assist us with class placement for next year.
If you haven't purchased a Yearbook yet, this is the time. They will be delivered to campus next week and when they are gone that is it. There is not going to be another set of books going to print. This yearbook is a great way to document one of the craziest years on record.
If you have a current 6th or 7th grader, the course enrollment forms are attached to this Weekly Update, or you can find them online. These are the forms that you and your child will use to select classes for the 2021/22 school year. We also use these forms to place students in Honors English and Math classes.
Lastly, 8th Grade parents, if you haven't RSVP'd for the promotion ceremony, please do that ASAP. The promotion is taking place on Thursday, June 10th, at 8:15 am. If you have any questions about the end of the year, please don't hesitate to send us an email.
Sincerely,
Casey Currigan, Principal
Joan MacQueen Middle School

State Testing
Students will be testing in the Learning Strategies classes for the next two Wednesdays. This is not a state test and we believe the results of these exams will provide the school with excellent feedback for the 2021/22 school year. If you would like to opt your child out of that testing please email.
Snake Season
As the weather warms up our snake populations become more active. We have already caught multiple snakes on campus and we expect more as Summer approaches. Please share with your child that if they see a snake please stay away from the snake and report the sighting to an adult ASAP. We will trap them and relocate them to an open space off campus. Unless they are really big then we will call someone brave to relocate them off campus.: )
