Principal's Message

AJHS Family,

This past week was a good one with our students taking the PreACT 8/9 and our middle school basketball teams tipping off their season. We are looking forward to another great week that will include Halloween, a Remote Learning Day, and our Black Bears hosting the first round of the AHSAA Football playoffs!

Upcoming 8th Grade Tour of the Career Academies of Decatur

On Friday, November 4th our 8th-grade students will have the opportunity to tour the Career Academies of Decatur, CAD, that resides on our campus. The CAD program offers a wide variety of career-related programs available to students beginning in 9th grade. Later in the month of November, the DCS Career Team will begin meeting with each of our 8th-grade students to develop a 4-year plan for 9th-12th grades and we hope the CAD tour will assist them in making their decisions. The decisions made on this 4-year plan are not final as we do understand that student interests can change.

We are excited that our students will have the opportunity to attend CAD classes in our new facility that is currently being built!

Westmeade Carline

The Westmeade Street carline will be closed until further notice due to construction on the new Career Academies building beginning this Monday, September 26th. All drop-offs and after-school 8th-grade pickups will be done through the Danville Road main entrance of the school. We apologize for this inconvenience and will have extra personnel helping in the afternoons to keep the line moving as quickly as possible.

Please note that the "S" parking lot on the corner of Betty St. and Danville Rd. (the same area utilized for the 9th-grade afternoon pick-up line) is open for morning drop off.

Free Tutoring!

AJHS is excited to offer free tutoring before and after school to all students. There is no need to make an appointment - just show up!

Decatur Youth Services also provides after school tutoring services.

Spread the Word

We will attempt to get information out to our students and families in many different ways. Although SchoolCast is great tool to get information out quickly, many of our stakeholders "see and forget" these messages. Please help spread the word to follow AJHS on Facebook and Instagram. I also think that many people would rather see or watch than read. FB allows us to post short video message, tutorials and announcements. Thanks!
