Who started Veterans day
How Veterans day began
Dwight Eisenhower started Veterans day on June 1 1919. In 1975 Jared Ford came along and returned it to November 11. All business was suspended for 2 minutes at 11 am. For 70 years Veterans day was celebrated on the 4th Monday of October so they would get a long break. They used to call it Armistice day. In 1954 the 83rd Congress asked to change Armistice day to Veterans day. Also they called it the" great war".
