THE RUNDOWN
Weekly Information for CBC YOUTH Leadership
Third week of September 2019
DG Leaders: By now, you have met 2 times with your DGs and hopefully you're getting to know them. By the end of the month, you ought to have reached out to each one of your students and their families by way of basic introduction (even if it's the same student).
3 Notes:
- The end of this month is "LIT" week - a chance to do something different. The goal of having the 5th sunday is to give your group another element of teambuilding and just "living life together." So as you plan this 5th Sunday, I would suggest that you NOT go off campus and either do an activity together (cook, play, build, serve, or even join up with another DG).
- Remember - DG is NOT Sunday school. While there should be an element of learning and teaching, don't make it the overall emphasis every single week (I know it sounds odd). Use the DG time for soul care, for getting to know where the students are at in life, and discipleship. ACCESS is our SS. Again, this doesn't mean don't teach or ever study...but use this time to love, care, and disciple the students.
- NOTE TO THE DGs WITH DUAL LEADERS: I know it's difficult with multiple leaders in the DG (esp. if one is already established) but I want to make sure that each leader is able to contribute in teaching, discipleship, and vision. So please work together and use each others' strengths while partnering with each other's weaknesses.
EPISODE 87: “NAVIGATING LGBTQ ISSUES” WITH ROSARIA BUTTERFIELD
BIO: Rosaria Butterfield, a former tenured professor of English and women’s studies at Syracuse University, converted to Christ in 1999 in what she describes as a train wreck. Her memoir The Secret Thoughts of an Unlikely Convert chronicles that difficult journey. Rosaria is married to Kent, a Reformed Presbyterian pastor in North Carolina, and is a homeschool mother, author, and speaker.
Raised and educated in liberal Catholic settings, Rosaria fell in love with the world of words. In her late twenties, allured by feminist philosophy and LGBT advocacy, she adopted a lesbian identity. Rosaria earned her PhD from Ohio State University, then served in the English department and women's studies program at Syracuse University from 1992 to 2002. Her primary academic field was critical theory, specializing in queer theory. Her historical focus was 19th-century literature, informed by Freud, Marx, and Darwin. She advised the LGBT student group, wrote Syracuse University’s policy for same-sex couples, and actively lobbied for LGBT aims alongside her lesbian partner.
