Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
Engaged Families Build a School Community
Dear Families,
Last week was a great week for GV. Students had great fun engaging in our virtual spirit week, our FOG board inducted two new parents to the board, and we had another supply pick-up. All three events brought so much positive energy from our students and our parents. We can feel your anxiousness to get your children back to school and we appreciate all the support you are giving to your children so that they can find success with their virtual learning.
This week marks another big week. Tuesday and Thursday will be important days to mark on your calendar as we continue our conversation and preparing our GV community about returning back to school. On Tuesday night, at 6:00, we will be holding an elementary virtual parent night to help our families to understand the return to school options that were surveyed to all of you. We want to continue to provide you with the most accurate information as we put together a plan that is safe and supportive for our GV community. Thursday is the Board meeting. Again, returning to school will be discussed. At both settings, we need to hear from the community. We want it to be a healthy and positive discussion and know that we will do our best to accommodate all families. Please attend these meetings so that you are informed and prepared for our next transition. The information for these events are below.....
I look forward to hearing from all of you this week!!

Assessment Window -- 4th and 5th Grade
4th and 5th grade will be assessed THIS WEEK. These students will have to come in for 2 sessions, one session for Reading and one session for Math. The assessments are too long to take both of them the same day. If your child is not signed up, please call the office so that they can get signed up.
These assessments will help us to guide our teaching, small group instruction, and to comply with the Read By Grade Three and the Return to Learn State of Michigan Legislature. Your children will take two assessments while they are here.
Please note:
- All COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed during testing including 6 ft Social Distancing, mask wearing, disinfecting, and health screenings.
- Attendance during testing would not impact attendance in the live classes. Students would be counted as present.
Thank you for your help with this!
School Supplies and Distribution
Thank you to all of you that took time out of your hectic day to come to Grandview on Friday to pick-up your child's learning materials. It was wonderful to see our Grandview families and for the teacher's to see their students and families, in person, even if it was at a distance. If you could not come, we need you to make arrangements to come and get the supplies this week. The office is open from 8-4:00 and we have your child's materials in the front of the school. These materials are to support the asynchronous learning that will happen each day. If your child is coming in for testing, they can pick-up their materials at that time.
These supplies are VERY important to your child's success whether they are hybrid remote or virtual. Therefore, we expect all families to come to school to pick up the necessary supplies.
Mark your calendar for October 23rd! That will be the 4th distribution day!!

Family In Need Applications
Every year, we work with Goodfellows to support our "families in need" to complete for help around the holidays and for other resources. Typically, we have envelopes in the office to support you, but due to COVID, you need to call to schedule an appointment, as well as, complete the application.
Below is the information from the Livonia Goodfellows, as well as, the contact information from other cities Goodfellows. Please remember the deadline is October 31st.
We want to help you and provide assistance to you and to your family. If you need help, please contact the office, myself, or the classroom teachers and we will send the application home with your child.
Yearbook Pictures
First Day of School, Grandview FOG Facebook Page, Constitution Day, Virtual Spirit Week has all brought in some great pictures for our yearbook committee, but we need more. Thank you to those families that have sent me pictures, but we still need more. If you have some great pictures of your child learning virtually, please email them to the following address.....gviewyearbook@gmail.com. It will take a village for us to ensure that we have enough pictures to mark this historical year.
Compliment Cards are Back
We will continue to name behaviors of our students who are being rock stars with their learning both within their Google Meets, but also with their on-line learning. So you will start to see the teachers focusing on these positive behaviors and naming them in the sessions. I will be pulling out names from our Compliment Bucket each week and naming the positive behaviors that we are seeing our students do. I can't wait to celebrate with these learners. Look for my weekly videos each Friday.
Immunizations
This Friday is the absolute deadline for immunizations for the entire Clarenceville School District. If we cannot reach you to discuss either the waiver or the completion before Friday, your child will not be able to return until we have a clear understanding to the status of the immunizations.
Please let us know how we can help you to reach this time-sensitive deadline. These mandates are from the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that all school districts must abide by.
Halloween Guidelines per the MDHHS and the CDC
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has issued guidance on how to safely celebrate the holiday during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tips for all groups include staying home if you are sick; maintaining social distancing of at least six feet; wearing a cloth mask that covers both the mouth and nose; and washing hands often or frequently using hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol.
In addition to the MDHHS guidance, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also issued recommendations this week. CDC considers trick-or-treating a high-risk activity and offers alternative activities to consider as well as safety tips if parents and children choose to trick-or-treat.
Tips for trick-or-treaters and parents:
- Share with your children that this year may be different than last but let them know some of the new ways you plan to celebrate and still have lots of fun.
- Talk with children about safety and social distancing guidelines and expectations. Keep a six-foot distance from others not in your group.
- Participate in one-way trick-or-treating and guide children to stay to the right to ensure social distancing.
- Trick or treat with people you live with.
- Avoid congregating in groups around houses.
- Wear a face mask covering both mouth and nose.
- A costume mask (such as for Halloween) is not a substitute for a cloth mask.
- Do not wear a costume mask over a protective cloth mask if wearing both causes difficulty breathing. Instead, consider using a Halloween-themed cloth mask.
- Only go to houses with safety measures in place.
- Check out halloween2020.org to find exciting activities and ways to celebrate Halloween this year based on levels of COVID risks in your area.
Tips for homeowners:
- Use duct tape to mark six-foot lines in front of home and leading to driveway/front door.
- Position a distribution table between yourself and trick-or-treaters.
- Distribute candy on a disinfected table to eliminate direct contact.
- Consider handing out candy in an open space where distancing is possible, rather than from the front door.
- Consider a neighborhood costume parade; it is an easy way to keep safe space between children.
The guidance also urges Michiganders to consider hosting virtual parties instead of in-person Halloween gatherings. If a gathering is hosted, it should be limited to 10 people or less per Executive Order 2020-176, social distancing should be maintained, cloth masks should be worn and food and party favors should be set out individually to prevent cross contamination.
Live Online Class Meetings - WE NEED TO HEAR FROM EVERYONE!!
Thank you to the families that have already filled out this survey. If you have not, please fill out this immediately. The reason for the survey is because teachers, in our remote settings, are asked to record their class meetings. The meetings are then shared with the class within the class learning platform (ie Google Classroom or Zoom) so that students that were absent or those needing a second viewing can review material. Please complete this form to provide consent to have your child's class recorded.
Some children are stating that
PLEASE COMPLETE ONE FORM PER CHILD. The form is attached!!
This Week's Specials Content Introduction Video
Still Not In the Special's Google Classroom, here are some tips to help you.....
Junior Kindergarten through Second Grade students who have not yet enrolled in their Specials Google Classroom have been added to the classrooms. You will not need to follow instructions for joining with a code. Instead, go to classroom.google.com and you'll see the Specials class automatically listed. Click the "Join" button and then the classroom will open. Look at the image below to help guide you.
Third through fifth grade students who have not yet enrolled in their Specials Google Classroom should follow the instructions to join with the code provided. Each of your classroom teachers have the codes listed.
School Hours and Attendance
This week we are starting tardies. If you are more than 10 minutes late into the meetings, tardy will be marked. So any student in after 8:40 or 10 minutes after their afternoon session, will be marked tardy. That will happen in brick and mortar.
Any student that misses more than the majority of the lesson, will be marked absent. Students are coming in with under 5 minutes to go, that is missed learning. The teachers will try and keep your child on to catch them up, but small group sessions are happening and they might not be able to.
Tardies can affect truancy, as does attendance. Remember, attendance IS taken daily. Attendance will be monitored. Truancy laws will be upheld. Under State of Michigan legislation, truancy is defined as a child who has 10 or more unexcused absences per school year. If you are option 1 - hybrid remote, teachers will take a morning and afternoon attendance, just like in brick and mortar. If you are in option 2 - virtual academy. You have a little more flexibility, but daily contact with the teacher is still expected. You can still call into the attendance line to excuse your child, but please do not get yourself into trouble with attendance. Unlike the spring, attendance is mandatory.
Free Breakfast and Lunch
Curbside meal pick-up for all children 18 and under or any mentally or physically handicapped adults ages 19-26 will take place on Thursdays at Clarenceville High School, Door 21. On most Thursdays, students will be given 7 days’ worth of breakfast and lunch meals. Parents/students can pick up their meals during one of the following service times: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM OR 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. See the 2020-21 First Semester Meal Pick-Up Schedule for a complete list of service dates and the number of meals to
be provided on each date.
