2nd Grade News

A VERY busy week in 2nd Grade
We have had a week of interesting weather. I hope you all stay nice and warm if we do have some snow this evening! I know your students are VERY excited about the possibility!
We had a great, productive week preparing for our Unit 3 Benchmark Assessment. Your students worked very hard this morning and this afternoon to show their knowledge of the skills and concepts we have been learning. I look forward to grading these assessments to see how we have done.
There is a LOT of important information in this newsletter. Please read through it all and let me know if you have any questions.
Warmest Regards,
Ms. Przedpelski
Important Information:
There is NO assigned Reading/ELA Packet this week. Since last week was very focused on Reading/ELA, this week is focused on MATH!
2. Weekly Extra Credit on Study Island: I am so excited to see how many of my students are utilizing the new Study Island extra credit opportunities! Last week was a review week for our Unit assessment, so there was not an uploaded assignment. This week the extra credit assignments begin again! You will see an assignment under our class for Reading and under your child's Math class. If your child completed these assignments, they will receive an extra 100% towards that subject. These are OPTIONAL and are meant to be extra practice. If your child does not complete the activities it does NOT impact their grade.
3. January Reading Logs and Reflections Reminder: We have one more week! Encourage your students to read, read, read at home! :)
Students must:
1. Read their books
2. Take an AR quiz and receive a passing score
3. Last, write a reflection on their book
Students must do ALL of these things in order to receive full credit on their reflections.
Students will have opportunities during our daily 5 time each day to take AR quizzes, but they must read their books before they can quiz - so encourage your students to read at home! :-)
4. January AR Goals: If students read and score a passing grade on at least 3 AR quizzes this month... they will receive a dress down day as a reward at the beginning of February!
5. Lunches: Please consider purchasing a thermos for your child's hot lunch. Our students have a short time to eat lunch each day. With all students needing to have items warmed up in the microwave, we fear that students may not be eating enough of their lunch!
Soccer Tournament Starts Monday!
For those of you who signed up, our soccer tournament starts on Monday! All of the information below was also sent to you in an email earlier this week.
The soccer games will start at 4:35pm in the gym. All students on the playing teams for that day should change clothes before arriving to the gym to play their game. The dates are Monday, January 25th to Monday, February 8th. It will span over two full weeks with the championship being on the Monday of the third week. As teams are eliminated, we will continue to share an updated schedule with you.
It will be a double elimination bracket with the games lasting 35 minutes with a 5 minute break between each 15 minute halves. There is 10 minutes scheduled between each game just in case students need more than 5 minutes to get to the second game, or if we have a tie, we can do PKs (penalty kicks) until we get a winner.
Parents are welcome to come watch their children play!
