SHS Weekly Update
November 5, 2021
If a student has been identified as being in direct contact of a student who tested positive for COVID the student will have options based on the following:
1. If the student is vaccinated they don't have to quarantine if they are asymptomatic.
2. If the student was wearing a mask and was more than 3 feet from the positive case during the exposure they don't have to quarantine if they are asymptomatic.
3. If the student is not vaccinated and was not wearing a mask and was within 6 feet they have to the option to either quarantine for 10 days or wear a mask for 14 days. This means they have to wear the mask in school except during lunch.
I know the rules are confusing but at least the Ohio Department of Health is allowing all students to avoid being out of school by wearing a mask.
The district's operating policies are in this newsletter if you have any questions please reach out to me for clarification.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MS. CELIA JOYCE, SOCIAL WORKER AT SMS & SHS
Ms. Celia Joyce has been working in our District for two years as a Social Worker. Ms. Joyce works with students and families at both the middle school and high school. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio University. Anyone in our District can reach out to Ms. Joyce (firstname.lastname@example.org / 440.268.5588) if they have questions or are in need of services. She can help make connections to resources in the community and Cuyahoga County, including basic needs (utility assistance programs, food, clothing, supportive services, etc.).
“I love how creative, open-minded and self-aware Strongsville students are. It can be really uncomfortable to talk to someone you barely know about stress or problems you are facing. Many of the students are very willing to openly talk about what’s bothering them and work together to make a plan to overcome barriers and address their mental health needs,” said Ms. Joyce.
“Our District is very welcoming and passionate about helping students not only academically, but with their social-emotional needs. It makes my job easier to work as a team and support each other. I also love how much the school advocates for mental health support, positive behavior interventions, and making meaningful connections with the students. Lastly, shoutout to our District’s ASAP program because I am really grateful for the opportunity to work with them!”
Thank you Ms. Joyce for providing valuable support for our SMS and SHS students and their families! #WeAreStrongsville
