Big picture

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

It's hard to believe we are moving into Week 7 of Term 4! It wasn't that long ago that we were in the midst of remote learning and the uncertainty of the pandemic. Thankfully, we have been able to resume most activities, albeit guided by Phase 4 Restrictions. With only 3 weeks of the school year remaining, please stay alert on your text messages, SeeSaw messages and Facebook as there are a number of events taking place in the coming weeks.

We are calling for parents to volunteer for our Parent Reps for 2021. We would love to have 2 parents per year level so please feel free to volunteer with a friend. Below is an outline of the parent rep role which we the P&F have recognised is more significant in the younger years as we try to build parent networks. The school and P&F will be supporting you so please don’t feel daunted. If you are interested in volunteering, please email:

Last Thursday, I had the pleasure of watching our Year 6 Confirmation Candidates receive the final Sacrament of Initiation. Even though there were restrictions and the Sacrament was celebrated on a Thursday evening, it was a beautifully reverent celebration fitting of our children's next step on their faith journey. Thank you to Miss Campbell, Mr Kinder and Mrs Freeman for their efforts in preparing the children so wonderfully well on short notice. A big thanks also to Mr C for his musical talents with the choir.

Our NAIDOC Week celebrations concluded on Friday with a wonderful display of Aboriginal Art completed by every child in the school. After beginning with a smoking ceremony early in the week, followed by class activities, the art show was a fitting way to end a celebration of our indigenous culture. Always Was, Always Will Be was the 2020 theme, reminding us that the traditional owners of our land continue to be respected, heard and celebrated. Thank you to Miss Nikeisha Vinciguerra and the Aboriginal Education Team for their hard work preparing the events of the week.

Last Friday night our P&F held their annual disco which was well attended by all year levels. Thank you to all the volunteer helpers that generously gave their time to work on the door, in the canteen and supervise the night. Without your help, these fantastic community events would not be possible. Thank you also to the P&F Executive for coordinating such a great night for the kids. I look forward to throwing a few more shapes next year on the d-floor!

Congratulations to the selected children from the Higher Order Thinking Skills group that works with Mrs Fenlon. On Tuesday, they visited St James Anglican School to participate in the Academic All Stars. This event challenges the children to work in teams to problem solve a number of challenges including engineering, maths and science! Well done to the following children:

Year 4: Elisabeth Hilliard, Sophia Guelfi, Ava Gibb

Year 5: Ben O'Hare, Catherine McAuley, Adam Viquez

Year 6: Tom Cartwright, Oliver Hansord, Owen Ward

Year 3 parents are invited to attend the 1:1 iPad Parent Information Night next Wednesday. This will take place in the Year 3 classrooms before the AGM. The presentation will outline how the iPads are used in Year 4 and beyond and explain the cost structure to parents. It is strongly advised that one parent from each Year 3 family attends, even if you have an older sibling who accesses the 1:1 iPad Program. It will begin at 5pm and the AGM will follow at 6pm.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - November 25th @ 6pm

A final reminder that the P&F and School Advisory Council Annual General Meeting will take place next Wednesday 25th November @ 6pm in the hall. All parents are encouraged to attend as we summarise some of the fantastic achievements of our school throughout a disrupted 2020 and provide our future direction for 2021. As a sweetener, all class teachers for 2021 will be announced on this night, so don't miss it!

CHRISTMAS CONCERT - Wednesday 2nd December 6pm

Due to the Phase 4 restrictions still being in place, we have made the decision to go ahead with our Christmas Concert outdoors! The details have been sent home via SeeSaw and are also attached below. Please take the time to read the information regarding the format of the evening.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION MASS - Wednesday 9th December 8:45am

In keeping with the Phase 4 restrictions, the Graduation Mass for our Year 6 children will be held in the school hall on Wednesday the 9th December at 8:45am. It will be a whole school mass with all children in attendance, however, only Year 6 parents and guests will be invited to attend. Please see the letter attached below for further details.

END OF YEAR FUN DAY - Friday 11th December 9am-12pm

Just because we're not busy enough, we thought what better way to end the school year than organising bouncy castles and water slides for the last day of school! Attached is a letter that outlines the events of the last day, which will culminate with the community shared lunch organised by the P&F. This event is for children only but parents are welcome to join us for the shared lunch at 12:30pm.

Our new faction shirts have arrived!!!!! In 2021, we will ask that all children in PP-6 purchase a faction shirt to be worn on Fridays - Faction Shirt Friday! This will enable us to arrange team events and whole school sport Fridays in our factions. Parents may purchase a faction shirt from the uniform shop, but they can only be worn to begin 2021.

A great game and win by the Maroons in last night’s Game 3 of State of Origin. Even though I am not an avid rugby league follower, the intensity of the State of Origin Series has few rivals. Looks like I am now in a 'sporting flux' as I wait for the summer of cricket to begin!

Have a wonderful fortnight ahead.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Last Thursday evening, our Year 6 Confirmands received the Gifts of the Holy Spirit through Confirmation. It was a very reverent celebration of the sacrament thanks to Fr Dariusz and Fr Marian, with a school 'family' atmosphere. Thank you to the Year 6 teachers, Mrs Freeman and Mr Kinder, and the Confirmands families for preparing and supporting them so well throughout the year. Special mention goes to Mr Cunniffe and his 'choir of angels' (Emily, Grace, Kayla, Summer, Isla, Layla and Ziva) for leading us in song.

Photos from the Sacrament of Confirmation Mass are available ONLINE through MSP Photography. I have posted a copy of the letter that went home on SEESAW today. Please make sure you order ASAP if you want to receive your photos before the end of the school year.

Our final whole school Mass of Thanksgiving will take place on Wednesday 9 December at 8:45am. This will be combined with Yr 6 Graduation and will be limited to the parents of the graduating students and invited guests.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, The Christmas Hamper Appeal is fast approaching! The Christmas Hamper Appeal has been pushed back to next week (week 7) Monday 23 November - Monday 7 December. A list of items, as well as reminders will go out on SEESAW and the school Facebook Page. The Christmas Hampers are distributed by St Vincent de Paul to families in our local community to help them celebrate Christmas with a bit more sparkle. Covid-19 means that there are more families in need of support and Christmas spirit than ever before. We thank you for your generous contributions.

Our parish, St Andrew's Parish (Clarkson), will celebrate the Feast Day of St Andrew on Sunday 29 November. Please see a letter attached below for information about the upcoming celebrations. It would be wonderful to see lots of St Francis faces there!

"Men lose all the material things they leave behind them in this world, but they carry with them the reward of their charity and the alms they give. For these, they will receive from the Lord the reward and recompense they deserve." St Francis of Assisi

Miss Dee Campbell

Faction leaders 2021

Last week children in Year 5 who nominated themselves to run for faction leader had the opportunity to present a speech to children from their faction in Years 3 -5 outlining why they would be a good leader and they can bring to their faction if elected. The election was run by the Electoral Commission and all votes were sent off to be counted last week. The chosen leaders will be announced in week 9 on Wednesday 9th December at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving Mass. Well done to all who nominated and good luck.

Year 6 Sailing

Over the next 2 weeks all children in Year 6 will be going to Hillary's Yacht Club to participate and learn how to sail. Permission slips were sent home on Monday and need to be returned ASAP. Please read your note carefully as it outlines what to bring and what the day will entail for the students.

Year 6 Interschool Carnival

The carnival will take place at 3 different locations, Indoor Beach Volleyball Centre Joondalup; Kingsley Tennis Centre, Woodvale and Kingsway Sporting Complex cricket oval. All information and what to bring is on the permission slip, please return the signed slip as soon as possible and if you are able to come down and support the children that would be great see.
