AAPI Heritage Month Highlight
As a child, Yuji Ichioka and his family were relocated from their home in San Francisco to the Topaz internment camp in Millard County, Utah, for three years during World War II. This experience proved to be seminal for Ichioka, who is largely credited with coining the term “Asian American.”
Ichioka also taught the first course in Asian American studies at UCLA, and is recognized as a co-founder of the Asian American Studies Center created at UCLA in 1969. Over the course of his career, Ichioka published several influential books of Japanese American history.
JUHSD Student Advisory Council Application
We give feedback on district decisions and work on our own projects to present to the board. Some of our past presentations have been on the topics of school safety, going green, facilities, student mental health, counseling, available programs, and school culture. Student trustees can give direct feedback at public board meetings too. Being apart of this team will allow you to voice your school concerns and present ideas about how to make change! The application is due by Wednesday, May 31st.
Attached is the Google Form.
Paper Tutoring
Paper is a tutoring service that provides 1:1 tutoring. Students get unlimited 24/7 live help in all content areas, and have access to multilingual tutors. Our district is partnering with this service, and students have access to Paper free of charge.
Please visit their website: https://paper.co/ and see how Paper can help you with getting ready for your Finals and with all your assignments.
Academic Council is the shared governance body at OHS that is responsible for policies and decision-making. AC is made up of students, teachers, parents, and administrators. We do not meet during the summer but feel free to review the notes for this school year here.
