More Information
Kids and teens do better in school when parents get involved. Attending parent–teacher conferences is one way to be involved and help your child succeed.
A parent–teacher conference is a great opportunity to:
- discuss your child's progress
- share your child's strengths and needs
- work with the teacher to help your child do well in school
Health and Attendance Information
Pleasant Valley Primary School's Attendance Goal:
100% of our students will attend school 90% of the time.
What Does This Goal Actually Mean?
Chronic absenteeism is when a student is absent from school 10% of the school year or more. Since we have 180 days of school, this equates to 18 school days throughout the school year. This means if a student is absent 2 days every month, they will reach that chronic absenteeism number of 18 school days.
Health and Attendance Pamphlets
Attendance at school is a top priority for us at Pleasant Valley Primary as it is a critical component to student success both academically, as well as socially and emotionally. However, we do know that illnesses happen and that there are times where it is in the students best interest to stay home and regain their health prior to returning to school.
Please review the below pamphlets to gain insight as to the Battle Ground School Districts policies around when students should and should not attend school due to health and illness.

Social Emotional Development
Monthly Focus: Empathy
This month, our school wide theme is empathy. In our morning announcements and school assembly we'll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others' feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Weekly Focus and the Morning Announcement Your Child Will Hear Each Morning During That Week
Week 1 (October 29 - November 2): Empathy
Getting along with others helps make our school a happier place. To get along with others, we need to have empathy for each other. Empathy is feeling or understanding what someone else is feeling. This week, be a feelings detective! Try to notice how your classmates are feeling throughout the week. Watch their faces and bodies for clues!
Not all grade levels have specific support materials for every lesson but below are some materials for this specific topic...
Week 2 (November 5 - 9): Identifying Feelings
We're all learning to identify our own and others' feelings. We can focus our attention on someone's face or body and on the situation for clues about how the person is feeling. Sometimes people's voices and the words they say also give us clues. If someone is yelling, it might be that this person is angry. if a person is using a very quiet voice, it might be that the person is scared or worried. This week, listen to people's voices for clues to figure out how they might be feeling!

Celebrations From The Last Two Weeks of School!!!
Mrs. Cacak's Class Kindness Heart
Mrs. Roggenkamp (school counselor) read a story about how everyone is different to Mrs. Cacak's class. The class then discussed why it is important to be kind to others...whether they are different than you or not. Students then signed the classroom heart as a pledge to be a bucket filler and use kind words each day.

They’ve done awesome so far!3rd Grade Students Work to Help Endangered Butterflies
All 3rd grade students are working to solve quite the complex problem: how can they, acting as ecologists and designers, help create a healthy habitat to attract and protect endangered butterflies? This is done through a collaboration between the third grade classes at Pleasant Valley Primary and the student teachers at Washington State University-Vancouver.
