Report Cards
Report cards will be finalized and emailed home on Monday afternoon. Please reach out to our school counseling department or administration with questions!
2020-2021 Student Schedule
SHS school counselors spent some time last week meeting with students (virtually) with schedule conflicts and proposed options for potential solutions. We ask that you continue to be patient and proactive as we finish this process. We try our best to accommodate each student's scheduling need, however, scheduling conflicts can create some compromises within student schedules. Please contact your teenager's school counselor with any concerns. Students will have the first two weeks of school in Aug/Sept. to make any schedule changes.
Final student schedules will be available on Powerschool two weeks before the start of school.
Student Item Pick Up and Drop Off!
Students who did not report to the scheduled days should contact judy.gallagher@scituateschoolsri.net in order to make an appointment this summer.
Students in grades 10, 11, & 12 should have brought back any school items including their borrowed chromebook. Ninth grade students should keep their chromebooks throughout the summer.
Yearbooks are Here!!
Monday, June 15th from 9:00-12:00 is your last chance to pick up your yearbook if you haven't already done so. After that, students will need to make an appointment. There are a few extra for sale. Summer Reading
Summer 2020
Dear Students, Parents, and Community Members:
Our Department of English extends to each family wishes for continued health and safety. To best meet the emotional and educational needs of our students, we are conducting a modified summer reading assignment this year.
We are beginning the summer reading work on June 2, using the last two weeks of school to give students an opportunity to engage in and perhaps finish the work. Students in grade10 Honors and grades 11 and 12 Advanced Placement classes have separate reading requirements which are also modified and become open to work during English class on June 2.
This year’s theme is connecting to and living American history. We ask students to examine essential questions surrounding the American story and look towards how history will be written about our individual and collective COVID-19 experiences. Students will view a self-selected documentary film from the list provided. They will then choose two pieces from the accompanying Literature Shelf with which to work. Students will use these two pieces and the documentary chapter to complete a provided organizer in preparation for the September writing prompt. Students will also be asked to consider their own COVID-19 experiences as voices of the future’s retrospective on this time.
As always, we depend upon all of you to make our summer reading program a success; we thank you in advance for your help and support. Please contact me at ruth.trainor@scituateschoolsri.net if you have any questions. Have a wonderful summer!
Sincerely,
Ruth C. Trainor
Department of English, Chairwoman
