SLE Book Swap
Each year some of the fifth grade students research a problem and brainstorm ways to help out. One of the students researched the need for all children to have access to books. To help with this problem she has created a Book Swap! Students can bring in previously read, gently used books and earn tickets (one ticket for every book they donate). Then they can spend those tickets the next day to get new-to-them books for the summer!
Book Drop-Off is May 17th in the Library Learning Commons. The Swap will take place May 18th.
MUSTANG PANTHER STADIUM UPDATE
Good afternoon,
As we wrap up another great school year in GCISD, we are already looking ahead to next fall and the re-opening of Mustang Panther Stadium. I am sure that most of you have observed the progress on the facility while driving down Highway 26, but I am also sure that many of you have asked the question, “will this be ready by August?”
This year, Texas had a significant amount of rain, compounded with high winds, which has unfortunately delayed the completion date for the project. We have been working diligently with our football coaches and their respective opponents to make any necessary adjustments to the schedule. As a result, we have made the following changes:
Week One:
August 30: Grapevine v. Azle at Dragon Stadium
August 31: Colleyville Heritage v. North Forney at Dragon Stadium
Week Two:
September 7: Grapevine v. Abilene Cooper at Apogee Stadium (UNT)
September 7: Colleyville Heritage v. Carroll at Dragon Stadium
Week Three:
September 13: Colleyville Heritage v. Trinity at Pennington Field
September 13: Grapevine v. Northwest at Northwest Stadium
Week Four:
September 21: Bye week for both teams
At this time, the first planned home game for the 2018 season is the Colleyville Heritage homecoming game against Newman Smith High School on September 28.
We understand that this is not ideal for our families, fans and especially our players; however, the weather and its impact on construction is beyond our control. We have worked with neighboring districts to have great places for our students to perform and I am confident that our students, fans and community will show up and support our teams during these first few weeks of the season.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during the stadium construction. It will all be worth it when we are enjoying the performances from our students at the new Mustang Panther Stadium!

For Parents of 5th Graders
Results for 5 and 8 Reading and Math STAAR
Results for April Grades 5 and 8 Reading and Math STAAR were posted at www.texasassessment.com in the FOR FAMILIES section in the STUDENT PORTAL on May 1, 2018. Parents will need their student's unique access code to retrieve the scores. This code is located in SKYWARD or on any previous STAAR Report Card at the bottom of the page. Parents can also go to www.texasassessment.com and retrieve the unique access code with their student's first name, social security number, and date of birth.
The performance labels and descriptors are as follows:
Masters Grade Level: Students at this level have exceeded the assessment requirements and TEA expects students at Masters Grade Level to succeed in the next grade or course with little or no academic intervention. Students in this category demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in varied contexts, both familiar and unfamiliar.
Meets Grade Level: Students at this performance level have met the assessment requirements and have a high likelihood of success in the next grade or course but may still need some short-term, targeted academic intervention. Students in this category generally demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts.
Approaches Grade Level: Students at this level have met the assessment requirements for purposes of Student Success Initiative grade promotion and graduation and are considered to have met at least the minimum passing standard. A student achieving Approaches Grade Level is likely to succeed in the next grade or course with targeted academic intervention. Students in this category generally demonstrate the ability to apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts.
Does Not Meet Grade Level: Students at this level have not passed since performance indicates a student is unlikely to succeed in the next grade or course without significant, ongoing academic intervention. Students in this category do not demonstrate a sufficient understanding of the assessed knowledge and skills.

Grapevine-Colleyville ISD is making some changes to the School Messenger automated calling system. Currently, when GCISD sends a phone message, it uses the main district line. Moving forward, calls will come from the following number: 866-264-0350. By using this toll free number, call recipients will be able to place a call back to this number to hear any missed calls, which is an added benefit to all families. Please save this number in your contacts as a reminder that these calls are coming from GCISD.
