Celebrating Temple RDSPD Teachers!
Teacher Appreciation Week 2020
Dear RDSPD Teachers,
Joy Lohse
Tricia Sheaffer
Alison Massar
Years in Program: 17 (including this year)
Why I wanted to teach:
As a high school senior, I had an opportunity to volunteer weekly at the Irving Regional Day School for the Deaf program through a jobs class. I had taken a basic signs class on my own time the previous year with my mom; the signing was fun! Anyway, I was planning to be a pediatrician. Yet, after working with the deaf and hard of hearing kids, I found I loved helping them to have that 'a ha moment' and seeing them grow as individuals with their personalities and quirks in bloom. They made me laugh every day. I loved seeing their excitement and eagerness to learn with whatever I was helping teach or do. I chose to teach deaf and hard of hearing kids, because I liked the unique challenges it presents; wanted to make a real difference and inspire/support parents to be their best for their kids.
The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.—B. B. King
