November 2021

Message From Board of Education President, Doug Krenzer

Dear Westside,

Thank you to the entire community for your vote of confidence on our levy override earlier this month. This will give Westside Community Schools the ability to continue to offer enhanced educational opportunities for all our students in a fiscally responsible way. The campaign to pass this measure took the time and effort of many volunteers, and the Board of Education is grateful to all of them.

We are excited for the fall season of playoffs, performances and special events. Thank you to our hard working students and staff for making these possible.

Go Warriors!

Doug Krenzer

WESTSIDE STRATEGIC PLAN PROGRESS

Community, Collaboration & Partnerships

Westside is proud to partner once again with the Omaha Fire Department, welcoming firefighters to our schools to promote fire safety. Crews from Omaha Fire visited schools across our district, allowing students to see their trucks, equipment, and learn life saving lessons on how to prevent and respond to fires. Firefighters will also go to any family's home at no charge to install and check smoke detectors. For more information 402-444-3560 or visit https://omaha-fire.org/smokealarms for more information.

Student Achievement and Well-Being

As temperatures cool down, we want to make sure we support the basic needs of our students, staff and families. The Westside Family Resource Center at Westgate Elementary is stocked with winter coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, boots and other winter weather items to help keep our children and their families protected. This facility is open to all Westside students, their families and our staff members; please contact your school social worker or principal for details on how to set up a private appointment. Contact information is provided in the flyer below!

The Westside Clothing Closet is in need of winter coats for all ages of students. We accept gently used coats from sizes 4/5 all the way up to XXL (children, womens and mens). You can send any donations through the Pony to the Family Resource Center (Pipal Community Center 7770 Hascall St.) or drop off Monday-Friday between 9 a.m.-12PM. We gratefully welcome donations to our Westside Family Resource Center. Donations can be dropped off Mon-Fri, 9 am-noon or contact westsidethecloset@gmail.com.

Thank you so much for helping keep our students and families warm this winter!!
