5TH GRADE LOCK-IN
A big thank you to our PTA who hosted the event and parents and teachers who chaperoned!
THIS THURSDAY IS THE SOUTHWOOD GLEN CONCERT!
Grades 1, 3 & 5 General Music Concert Thursday, April 28th 2022
Where: Franklin High School’s Saber Center Auditorium. Enter the auditorium doors and go to your right, all the way down the hall to your designated room.
* You will not need to purchase tickets and there will be no assigned seating**
When: Student drop off begins at 6:00pm. (Prior to this time, there will not be supervision.) Concert begins at 6:30pm
What to Wear: Disney Theme
Please make sure your performer is dressed in their finest Disney outfit for the evening concert. Please no worn out blue jeans, sweat pants, shirts with graphics other than Disney or tops with spaghetti straps since this is a special occasion. If they have no Disney attire, any bright color will do.
The students and I are excited for this experience and look forward to performing for you in such a terrific venue.

FRANKLIN CULTURE FEST IS BACK!
UW MILWAUKEE OFFERS 2-WEEK SUMMER EXPLORATION CAMP
The Mini-Courses Summer Exploration Camp is a two-week academic enrichment program that reinforces middle school students’ reading, writing, math, and science skills. The two-week camp includes a math and science component one week, and a reading and writing component the other week. To learn more about this program, please click here or on the accompanying flier.
SPRING/SUMMER REC GUIDE IS OUT!
FPS BOARD OF EDUCATION SELECTS (3) SUPERINTENDENT FINALISTS
FPS IS ADDING TEXT MESSAGING
Similar to how we send out emails and phone calls, FPS will soon be able to send text messages to parents. This will only be used for time sensitive situations (school is called off, an alert related to a bus incident, a building situation to keep families informed about, upcoming event details, etc). This service will be added next Tuesday, May 3rd at 4:30pm. Parents and guardians will receive a message from this service that explains steps to take should you choose to opt out. Look for more details in the district newsletter this Friday and in next Monday’s building newsletter!

JUNIOR SABER VOLLEYBALL REGISTRATION BEGINNING SOON
Junior Saber Volleyball will return this fall with registration opening up May 1st. Junior Saber Volleyball offers those athletes entering 5th-8th grades in the fall of 2022 (2022-2023 school year) the opportunity to learn the sport of volleyball and compete against other schools in the area. The program runs from mid-August until the end of October.

FRANKLIN HEALTH DEPARTMENT BIKE RODEO!
FRANKLIN EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION & ECO CLUB SHOE DRIVE
The FEF and FHS Eco Club are hosting this year’s SHOE DRIVE to collect shoes that can be repurposed so they don’t end up in landfills. The dropoff will be available at Franklin High School on Saturday, April 30th and Sunday May 1st from 11a-1pm. Mark your calendars and collect your items! COVID-19 ON-SITE TESTING UPDATES
FPS continues to partner with Summit Clinical Labs to offer COVID-19 Testing for staff and students within the school buildings. If a student or staff member is at school and requires testing, we will work with the tester from Summit labs to come test the student during the hours of 7:30a-3:30p on school days. If family members require testing, please visit the Summit Clinical Labs website or the DHS Community Testing page here for information and locations where testing is available. This updated document contains all current testing information.
KIDS CLUB EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION

KIDS CAMP SUMMER OFFERINGS
The Community Education & Recreation Department will once again be offering Kids Camp this summer for children who have completed 5K through those entering 6th grade. Click here or on the image to view all details. Registration opens next Wednesday, April 13th.
If your child is enrolled in FPS Summer Learning and wants to attend Kids Camp, there is a bus to Ben Franklin for Camp after FPS Summer Learning ends around noon. Kids Camp is also offered on Fridays if you are looking for options for your child since there is no FPS Summer Learning on Fridays.
SABER PRESCHOOL MAY 2-19
The Franklin High School Child Development 2 students will be sponsoring Saber Preschool Monday through Thursday from Monday, May 2nd through Thursday, May 19th from 9am to 10:15am. Saber Preschool is designed for children ages 3 to 5 who are toilet trained and ready to experience a supportive and enriching preschool environment including storytime, large/small group activities, free time, songs, and other fun activities. The student teachers prepare daily lesson plans that not only provide opportunities for the Little Sabers to develop socially but also to enhance their kindergarten readiness skills. The Saber Preschool program offers a truly excellent experience for both our big and small students.

5th Grade Lock-in - Our 5th graders had an amazing time this past weekend. Thank you to all of the volunteers who made this evening a special one. Congratulations to our 5th graders, and best wishes at Forest Park!
Teacher Appreciation Week - This annual national event will be during the week of May 2nd-6th and we look forward to honoring our teachers and staff with a Garden Party Theme! Each day of the week has a different way to engage and show our appreciation. Check A to Z HERE for volunteer opportunities to help with some of the daily events:
Saturday or Sunday (4/30 and 5/1) - Beautify the Gardens!
Families work together at a time (TBD) to beautify the gardens outside Southwood Glen. Stay tuned for more details!
Monday (5/2) - Bounty of Fruit - Build Your Own Yogurt Parfaits
Tuesday (5/3) - Smell the Roses - Build a Bouquet
Students will bring in flowers to contribute to bouquets for our staff.
Wednesday (5/4) - “Gardeners need Tools” to Grow the Classroom - contribute “tools” to help grow classrooms and students
Families can donate supplies from wish lists or a book for the classroom library. This Linktree will be continuously updated as teachers and staff share their wishlists!
Thursday (5/5) - Plant the Seeds (Gift Bags for Staff Members from the PTA)
Friday (5/6 ) - Garden Party Luncheon
