Dear Parents,
Going back to school can be somewhat difficult for children at such an early age. Getting up at an early hour, settling back into routines, adjusting to the new changes that the program might entail are some of the aspects that each child struggles when coming back to school from a long break. This next few weeks we are going to help them readjust to all those changes so they can have a successful second semester in PK3.
On Monday we started looking at the different names that we find in our group of students, and also introducing the new students that just came into the program. We then furthered this topic by talking about the different choice areas that we have created in our class and the names of each. Looking back and remembering about the toys and areas and how we use them, allow our students to create independence when working in choice time and other times of the day.
As soon as we saw how knowledgeable our kids were when it comes to class routines, we wanted to focus on the different feelings that they might be experiencing during this time of the year. Happiness, excitement, joy are some of them but they sometimes feel scared, sad, nervous about the changes they are experiencing. Little Miss Muffet and Chester from “The Kissing Hand” both were scared, and they showed our boys and girls different ways to confront those fears.
We welcome you to talk to your child about how they are feeling about coming back to school by using pictures, manipulatives, role play, and help them understand the importance of talking about them.
Have a great weekend!
