A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL...
Students, Parents, Faculty, and Staff,
"Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny." - C.S. Lewis
As we move through the beginning of this new year and look forward to what 2023 has in store for us we know there will be "bumps in the road." The "hardhips" we are facing personally, socially, academically, etc. will make us better. This is usually the time of the year I bring up the phenomenon of "resiliency." You can have all the education in the world, but if you don't develop some resiliency, it is going to be hard to be successful in anything in life.
What is resiliency? Resiliency is the ability to overcome challenges of all kinds–trauma, tragedy, personal crises, plain ‘ole’ life problems–and bounce back stronger, wiser, and more personally powerful.
Why is it important? Resilience is important for several reasons; it enables us to develop mechanisms for protection against experiences which could be overwhelming, it helps us to maintain balance in our lives during difficult or stressful periods, and can also protect us from the development of some mental health difficulties and issues
Next week... can resiliency be learned or built? How?
Everyone has a role in our students education... the students, teachers and staff, the parents, the community... "IT STARTS WITH YOU!"

Love Delivered...
We are once again partnering with Day 1 Bags to deliver Valentine’s day cards and fuzzy socks to those often overlooked on Valentine’s Day, Nursing Home Residents, and Local Foster Youth.
Our goal is for every BISD student to create one Valentine’s card, however, we would love to achieve multiple cards per student. Please strive to have students write a kind note on each Valentine (no blank valentine donations, please). We are asking that Elementary students craft and donate for the Nursing home residents and Secondary for the Foster youth.
Please ensure that the sock donations and cards are gender-neutral.
Unopened candy will also be accepted and used for Valentine’s Day Deliveries by Day 1 Bags.
January is School Board Recognition Month
We are truly grateful for our wonderful and hard-working Boerne ISD Board of Trustees.
Thanks to their leadership, BISD has blossomed into one of the best school districts in the state of Texas.
Thank you, Trustees!
PARENT EDUCATION SPEAKER SERIES...
The next event in the Parent Education Speaker series, titled One Pill Can Kill and Cyber Danger, will take place on Thursday, February 16th from 6-7pm at Champion High School.
Panel Guests will discuss the dangers that our students face, such as Fentanyl as well as online. This is an encore discussion on the two topics for those who were unable to attend the events in the fall semester.

BHS Counselors = CREST Award for the 3rd Year in a Row!!!
Boerne HS Counselor's Corner
TSI Testing
TSI testing will be Tuesday and Wednesday this week in the library. Students who miss this round will have a chance to test again in April. Students who have signed up for testing need to report to the library on the day of the test. Students will not be counted absent.
Course Selection
We will begin going into classes for course selections for next year during the first week in February. As in the past, students will be using Choices 360 to put in their course requests. This year, we will have an individual meeting with every student in our alpha split to advise and assist them with their course selections. Parents will have the opportunity to see their chosen courses through their student’s account. More information about available courses and dates for meeting with our students soon to follow.
8th Grade Parent Night
On February 7th, we will be hosting a parent night for our rising 9th graders. This will be an opportunity for our future 9th graders and parents to learn about BHS and general information about courses and CTE pathways. See the flyer below for more info.
SAT School Day
BHS counselors will be administering the SAT for juniors on March 1st. 11th graders are automatically signed up and there is no fee to take the test. All other grade levels are eligible to take the SAT but will need to sign up in the counselor’s office and there will be a fee associated with the test. The deadline for non-juniors to sign up is January 20th. If your student would like to take additional administrations of the SAT, College Board facilitates Saturday tests throughout the school year. Students will need to sign up through College Board on their own to take these tests.
Seniors:
Scholarships-Local scholarship applications will be available in the counselors office at the beginning of February. By filling out an application, you will be applying for multiple local scholarships. This is a great opportunity for BHS students as they have a better chance at being awarded scholarships since only Boerne ISD students are eligible. We will continue to put additional scholarship opportunities in the Class of 2025 Google classroom so check it frequently.
College Acceptance-If you have applied to college and been accepted, let us know which college you’ve chosen. We want to celebrate with you and share your success by placing your name on your college flag to put on the counseling office window.
