Sixth Grad Band Bulletin
May, 2016
First, Happy Star Wars Day! It's hard to believe the students only have 13 more days of school! It has gone by way too fast (though I think the kids may be ready for some R & R).
As we wind down, there are SEVERAL things to bring to your attention. This newsletter will give you some info on all of these important matters.
As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely
Rob Buckley

Summer Practice!
Here are some things students can look forward to in 7th grade (practice over the summer is a must for all of these)
*Jazz Ensemble--Students who performed in the Jazz Band or Jazz Ensemble this year should strongly consider trying out for Jazz Ensemble next year! If your child did not do Jazz in 6th grade, but wants to try it in 7th grade should try out too! Jazz Ensemble is the advanced Jazz group at RMS. Students must audition for this group (Jazz Ensemble is open to Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Piano, Bass, Drumset, and Guitar only). Auditions take place in October. Practicing over the summer will propel students to a higher level which will help with auditions!
*Symphonic Band--Students currently playing at an advanced level should audition for the Symphonic Band. The Symphonic Band is our honor-band. It is a concert band like the sixth grade bands your child plays in daily. This band is made up of 6-8 graders who play at the highest level. There is a limit to the number of spots in each section. The Symphonic Band is graduating a lot of 8th graders this year. There will be a number of openings. Music will be available to students before we leave. Students should practice this music throughout the summer. Auditions take place in October, 2016.
*ILMEA Honor Band--Students can audition to be part of the ILMEA District IX Honor Band. Over 35 middle schools from the region send students to audition for 110 coveted spots in the honor band. Students at a very advanced level can audition for this band. Music will be available to students before we leave. Students should practice this music throughout the summer. Auditions take place in October, 2016--though students must register to audition shortly after school starts in the fall.
School-Owned Instrument Fee can now be paid on Powerschool
