Cell Organelles
Plasma or Cell Membrane:
a barrier which holds all of cell pieces
holds in fluids and organelles in a cell
present in both animal and plant cells
Cytoplasm:
made of polysacchrides
a shield or wall to protect a cell
cytoplasm is present in plant cells
Nuclear Membrane:
a double layered membrane surrounding the nucleus of eukaryotic cells
DNA in a cell being protected by a nuclear membrane
nuclear membrane is present in animal cells
Centrioles:
a ring or group of Microtubules
provides spinal tubes for the mitosis
centrioles is present in animal cells
Ribosomes:
grain-like bodies floating in the cytoplasm attached to the endoplasmic
produces protein
ribosomes are in both animal and plant cells
Endoplasmic Reticulum:
smooth throughout a cell but rough and look like pebbles
transport cellular material throughout a cell
endoplasmic reticulum is present in both plant and animal cells
Chloroplast:
green surrounded by inner and outer membranes in a cell
captures sunlight and uses it to produce food for a plant cell
Chloroplast is present in plant cells
Peroxisomes:
a single membrane that contains digestive enzymes for breaking down toxic materials in the cell
digesting fatty acids
peroxisomes is present in both animal and plant cells
Cytoskeleton:
a network of fibers composed of proteins contained within a cell's cytoplasm
provides an important structural framework for cells shapes
a cytoskeleton is in both animals and plant cells
