Chowan County, which was founded in 1668, is part of the Coastal Plains region of North Carolina. The bordering counties are: Gates County, Perquimans County, Washington County, Bertie County, and Hertford County.
What About the Chowan County Government?
The county is governed by a Council/Manager form of government. The Manager of the county is Zee B. Lamb. The council here hires a Town Manager to manage the day to day operations of municipal services and government. The Board of Commissioners consists of seven members.

There are so many things to do in Edenton. Among those, are visiting the Barker House, where one of the leading figures in the Boston Tea Party, Penelope Barker, lived. You can go to the Edenton Cotton Mill Museum of History, drive past the bridge which leads to Hayes Plantation, or just go camping and canoeing on the Albemarle Sound.
