Principal Young's Caregiver Update
March 23, 2023
Message from Principal Young
We are wishing all of our students, families, and educators a safe and happy spring break next week. We hope that you have quality time to connect with your student whether it is working together to complete chores, eating meals together, watching a movie together, or another activity. Although your middle schoolers are exhibiting increased independence, they need and will benefit greatly from the time together. We look forward to welcoming your student back to school on Monday April 3, 2023.
Students Having Fun During Wellness Day
On March 21st, Glen Hills’ hosted its first-ever “Student Wellness Day." In addition to the Candor sessions on Human Growth & Development, students participated in various wellness-related sessions throughout the school day. It was a great day of wellness and learning.
Forward Exam Begins April 11th
Scholars at Glen Hills Middle School will soon be participating in the Wisconsin State Assessment called the Forward Exam. This exam measures the knowledge and skills your child(ren) have acquired by the time they reach each grade level.
All Wisconsin public school students in Grades 3-8 and 10 are expected to participate in this exam during the Spring testing window as per state statute. The results of these tests will be used in a variety of ways, including:
Helping school staff make determinations about how to best support your student(s). (Performance on the assessment will not affect any student’s current course grades.)
Assisting the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to determine each school’s Annual State School Report Card. Grade and district level performance, as well as other indicators, are used to calculate the district and school report card.
Assisting the United States Department of Education to determine each district’s Annual Federal Accountability Rating. This takes into account student performance and participation rates.
Glen Hills Middle School is scheduled to take the Wisconsin Forward Exam during the dates listed below.
FORWARD Exam Schedule:
Grade 4 April 11th-14th
Periods 2, 3, 4, and 5
Grade 5 April 11th - 13th
Periods 2, 3, 4, and 5
Grade 6 April 11th - 13th

Periods 2, 3, 4, and 5
Grade 8 April 11th - 13th

***Students will be scheduled for make up tests as needed.
One or more subtests may be administered daily during the identified time frame, and it is very important that your son or daughter be in school during this time. Students not in school on the scheduled testing days will be rescheduled for a makeup test prior to the close of the testing window.
Please encourage your student to take the test seriously and do the best they can.
I am sharing the link for the Informational Brochure for Families which gives more information about the assessment including its purpose, what scores will be provided, and how the scores will be used. If you have any questions, please contact Anna Young at 414-351-7160, ext. 2112.
