Roblyer Ramblings
RLC Newsletter, October 2021
End of Quarter 1 and P/T Conferences
I cannot believe we are already nearing the end of quarter 1. It has been a fast and furious first two months of school. As we move into October we will have several activities and events occurring. Progress reports will be printed and sent home on Oct. 11. Please encourage your students to turn in missing assignments and to always put their best effort into their academic day. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held by phone or video conference on Oct 11 and 12. If your child hasn't given you the signup sheet for times, please ask them for it today and return it by Oct. 6. We will notify you of the scheduled time and our teachers will connect with you then.
SOCKTOBER and Red Ribbon Week
This month we are collecting socks for "Socks of Love", a local organization that donates socks to those in need. This is a class competition. We want to teach our students to care for others and this is an easy way to bring in the giving spirit to our school community. Students can bring socks now through the end of the month.
Red Ribbon Week will be Oct. 25-29. We will have dress up days and our students will be learning ways to say no to drugs. With the rise in popularity with vaping, these are important conversations to have, even with 10-12 year olds. The accessibility of these devices and the unregulated nature of the product make these dangerous for our students.
Roblyer Rocks, Social Media, and the TikTok Challenge Craze
We've mentioned this regularly, but it is always worth mentioning again. We love our students and are so thankful to have the opportunity to invest in their lives daily. We know it takes a village to raise a child and we appreciate the opportunity to make a difference in their lives while they are at Roblyer.
One way that we work on building the whole child is with a focus on character and positive behavior. Our acronym of Roblyer R.O.C.K.S. helps guide our daily conversations proactively with students and for redirection when misbehavior occurs.
Respect yourself, others, and our community.
Own your mistakes and take responsibility for your own learning.
Commit to always doing your best.
Kindness is more than being nice; its thinking of others first.
Safety, both physically and emotionally, is important.
We all know that social media has taken a crazy turn in recent years. Even for adults, the content can be inappropriate or discouraging. For students who do not yet have well developed regulation skills the unlimited access to this content can be detrimental. Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat, and a variety of other apps and websites have little regulation on content. The sites contain videos that encourage and support inappropriate activities and make light of societal norms. The latest TikTok Challenges are just an example. Schools across the country have been faced with vandalism since the year began. The next TikTok challenge being reported is to slap a staff member. These activities gain support through shared videos on TikTok, text, and other forms of communication. We encourage you to have conversations with your children about appropriate behavior and to consider their need for such apps at this age.
If you ever have a question, don't hesitate to call the school or send me an email. We will get back with you as soon as possible.

CoVid Protocols
No outside food for classes may be brought without prior permission from the principal. If approved, the items must be individually wrapped.
Water bottles should be brought to school for hydration while CoVid protocols are in place.
Masks are encouraged but not mandated at this time.
According to current OSDH and CDC guidelines, quarantines due to exposure are 10 days, or return on day 8 with a negative test on day 7.
Fully vaccinated individuals or those wearing masks correctly at the time of exposure will not need to quarantine.
If an outside of school exposure occurs, please contact the school so we can document the self-quarantine. Contact tracing for events outside of school is a personal responsibility, not that of the school.
No visitors are allowed inside the building.
