Keys to Peaceful Sleep (for parents with children, birth - 5 years)
When children are not sleeping, parents are not sleeping! When parents are not sleeping it makes it difficult to stay calm through all the ups and downs that come with raising young children. As the parent, you cannot MAKE your child sleep but there are many things in your control that can significantly influence your child’s going to bed routine, staying asleep all night and waking up happy and rested! Join Kathy Matthews to learn about what you can do to help your whole family get more peaceful sleep.
Session meets January 19, 4:30-6pm. Join Virtually or In person! Free childcare available; space is limited. Register here.
Solar Panels Installed at Golden Lake Elementary
Solar panel installation at Golden Lake Elementary is nearing completion. Over break, the panels will be tied to the electrical grid and the school will be solar panel-assisted when students and staff return in January. Although not 100% solar driven, the school's electrical expenses will be offset. Students will be able to access a dashboard in their classroom to see the savings along with other data.
Panels face southwest and are tilted at a 10-degree angle, allowing the most sunlight absorption for the school’s geographic location.
New Crystal-Growing Record at Centennial Middle School
Congratulations to 8th grade student, Sadie Mahal! Sadie broke the record for growing the largest crystal. Her 65.5 pound Borax crystal broke the previous record held for the past four years by senior Eli Nowacki. The crystal growing project is part of the 8th grade Earth Science class at Centennial Middle School.

School Closing Information
Early Dismissal to Ensure Buses Run on Time
When we have inclement weather and slow road conditions, students in grades 6-12 may be dismissed a few minutes early to help ensure the elementary buses run on time. Elementary students would be dismissed at their normal time. On these occasions, a District-wide communication will be sent to all families. We experienced this situation this week!
How are Families and Staff Notified?
An announcement of a school closing or a delayed start is usually posted by 6:00 a.m. The community is notified via:
- Twin Cities television stations.
- Information posted on the district website - www.isd12.org.
- By calling the District Office at 763.792.6000 and school office phones.
- An "alert notification" will be sent to families by telephone and/or text through the District's SchoolMessenger communication system. A message will be sent to your home phone, cell phone, work phone, by text--see below, based upon information provided by each family.
Did you miss the call?
If you are unable to answer a call made district-wide regarding emergency or school closing information, a message will go to your voice message box. Please retrieve your message or check the ISD12 website for information instead of hitting "redial."
Do you want to receive emergency and school closing information by text?
Text "Y" or "YES" to 67587. You must opt-in annually.
Opt out of these messages at any time by responding to one of our messages with "STOP." Note: The District will text only emergency information and bus delay updates. SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy Pledge, so be assured your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone. Terms and conditions: Message frequency varies. Standard message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help. Text STOP to cancel.
Flexible Learning Days
Students will engage in Flexible Learning (online learning) if the District announces a closing of its schools due to inclement weather. Flexible Learning Days will count as school days.
Click here for more information on Flexible Learning.
Hiring Substitute Teachers, Paraprofessionals, and More
Make a difference in our community by subbing as a teacher, paraprofessional, Kids Club (before/after school child care) staff, or school nurse. You’ll have a flexible schedule (you decide what days you want to work), great pay and bonus opportunities; prior teaching experience is not required. Click here for more information on substitution opportunities. Are you a nurse and would like to sub in our schools? Contact Kelsi Gruber Kellerhuis, Health Services Coordinator, at 763.792.5231 or by email, kgruber_kellerhuis@isd12.org.
