Primary Prevention of stress deals with what causes the stress. It can attempt to reduce or eliminate the cause of stress. Examples include meditation, stress inoculation, and time management.
Secondary Prevention of stress deals with the personal characteristics of a person. The idea of secondary prevention is to give these people the tools needed to deal with stress more effectively. Examples include exercise and therapeutic touch/massage.
Tertiary Prevention of stress deals with an individual experiencing symptoms related to having mental health issues. This level of prevention influences the consequences of exposure to stress. Examples include counseling, smoking cessation, and health education.
Techniques for Stress Management
Some techniques used for stress management include but are not limited to listening to music, spending time with friends and family, reading, treating yourself to a massage, yoga or meditation, exercise, enjoying a hobby, aromatherapy, and finding ways to laugh.
