Mrs. Dickson's First Grade

Reader's & Writer's Workshop

This week in Reader's Workshop, your child will be learning about additional rereading strategies. You can practice having your child in their best storyteller voice. Later in the week, your first grader will learn how to make predictions before they read.

In Writer's Workshop, we will continue to talk and right about a Small Moment. In addition to reinforcing revision strategies (adding to pictures and words), your child will learn strategies to help with spelling words they don't know. To reinforce this at home, as your child writes and asks how to spell words, have them say the word and write each sound that they hear. This is how we stretch words to spell them.

Math

In Math this week, we will be reviewing Topic 2 and taking the Topic 2 test on Wednesday. We will begin Topic 3, Five and Ten Relationships. Your child will be representing numbers on a ten-frame. In the Home-School Connection that will be going home on Friday, there is a fun game on the back that I'm sure your child will love to play with a family member!
